My goal is by this summer to be playing poker as my full time income, $5/10 4tables limit full ring.
Just using the standard 2BB/100 goal and giving each table an average of 50 hands/hr I should be making $40 an hour minimum. So If I play 10 hours a day 5 days a week, I should make $2K a week just from poker. Throw in a rake deal of around 20% of my rake back(Following the chart on rakereturns.com) for around $2516 a month. And that means I should make $10,516 a month??? Does anyone make that much??? and is that realistic of a goal??? Living, Learning, and Laughing. Big Steve |

Without more information on your current win rate it's tough to tell if it's realistic or not. In absolute terms, I would guess that 2BB/100 is pretty ambitious when 4-tabling 5/10, but some more experienced 5/10 players would better be able to tell you.
Your numbers look right, however, so if you can hit 2BB/100, you should make a decent chunk of cash. Don't forget that Uncle Sam is gonna want 28% or so, though. -Freeze |

Trust me I know all about Uncle Sam because I have Mother H&R Block (She has worked for them for 13 years)
I am a very good B&M player. I am about to start playing online in about a week at the .5/1 tables until I get a feel for the game, then I will slowly start adding tables till I get to 4 and then I will start moving up the limits. your goal is realistic, assuming that you can achive your winrate, but remember, this net profit would be coming from the extreme long term, so it will rarely balance out exactly the way you think it will. To cover these fluctuations i would recommend at least a 500BB roll, perhaps even more if you are going into the 6-max games on party, especially if your monthly expenses are high. Also, for the love of god, make sure you get a rakeback deal.

Why not start now? 1-2 hours a day, more on weekends, and you'll be able to get a sense of how realistic your goal is.
Good luck. |

10 hours a day for 5 days a week is completely unrealistic.
I'm surprised no one else has said anything about that: your winrate is realistic as is your rake back, but not the amt of time you spend getting all that. |

10 hours of poker a day is tough. 50 hours per week isn't completely unreasonable if you can spread it out over 7 days, but I think very few people can consistently play very well for 10 hours a day.
Why not aim for 40 hours/week? 6-8 hours a day is much more feasible in the long run. |

Yobz and Duk hit it on the head. When you haven't started playing fulltime yet, its fun to crunch the numbers with ambitious hours like that.
Its better than a real job, right? Why wouldn't I work that many hours? Well, in reality, you will find you have to force yourself to put in hours often. Also, you will enjoy the freedom to not work somedays, sometimes several days at a time (this is a good thing!). I would rework your figures for 30-40 hours a week. |

Don't quit your full time job until you have a ton of solid results,
and a huge bankroll. I know from experience. Good luck. |
