3-6 live. 10-handed. I’ve only played about ten hands with him, but villain appears to be loose passive.
Preflop: Hero has AQ in MP2. 3 folds, MP1 calls, Hero raises. 1 fold. Villain 3-bets. Button folds. Blinds fold. MP1 calls. Hero calls. Flop (9 SB) Q 7 3 rainbow. (3 players) MP1 checks. Hero bets. Villain calls. MP1 folds. Turn (5.5 BB) 2 (2 players) Hero bets. Villain calls. River (7.5 BB) 9 (2 players) Hero bets. Villain calls. Final Pot: 9.5 BB |

What's the question? I like your play. Villian probably has AK/JJ.

Which part do you have a question on?

I was pretty sure this was the right way to play since villain never shows any strength after PF, but wanted to know if there was any reason to fear him. 3bet from what I perceive to be a passive player would lead me to believe that he has AA AK KK QQ or JJ, and the only hands I'm ahead of are AK & JJ, so there's more hands I'm behind than I am ahead. Since he never shows any strength the rest of the hand, I assumed it was JJ or AK also, but wondered if there was a better way to gauge his hand. Would a check-raise on the flop better define his hand?
Assuming I'm ahead, I also wondered if an attempt at a check-raise on the turn for value might be reasonable, since there's no flush or straight draws, making the only concern a free card for a K. Villain turned over AA by the way. |

I wouldn't go for the CR on the turn for one of the reasons you mentioned - the 3-bet preflop.
I like the way you played this - your opponent saved you at least one big bet by just calling you down. |

Now that's passive.

I think maybe a c/r on the flop may have been a good idea, but I think you played the hand fine. Even the most passive players raise it at least once if they flop an over pair. His play reeks of AK or JJ.

fine...
but consider the illustrious check/call check/call bet line. better if this were headsup. if villain is inclined to play his bullets like this betting is fine as it seems he's unlikely to bet his JJ/AK in situations like this if checked to. given a read of loose/passive with the extra player in there i still prefer c/c c/c bet but don't see a problem with your play. what was your plan if you got raised on: the flop? the turn? the river? |

If do go for the C/R on the flop, and he re-raises, what do I do? Fold? Call and check fold the turn if unimproved? Call down the whole way?
