Default Linux?

So, I'm getting fed up with windows again and wanting to put linux back on my laptop, but I just can't justify it if I'm not gonna be able to play my poker. I've read some stuff about party working through vmware, anyone out there have any experience with any other apps? namely the other party skins since as of now I do 100% of my poker on party and skins. Also, anyone have any experience with pokertracker?

If you're using vmware to run Windows, then it's really running Windows. You can run any Windows poker client that you want at that point. The Windows VM can still crash, and you'll have to "reboot" it.. so if you're doing it for a pure stability standpoint, there isn't much value.

I use a vmware Windows "machine" when i do random casino/poker bonus whoring. That way I can quickly re-vert to my clean image, and not worry about what random things the client installed. Overkill, maybe, but it keeps things clean.

Heres's a post by CORed discussing his use of Linux and Party. He uses crossover office, which is a front end for wine. Sounds like he did OK with it.

I downloaded the demo version of crossover office 2 days ago and have played around with it. I have some Windows applications working, but have not tried a poker client yet. The crossover office demo version is the full version that only works for 30 days, registering it will cost US$39.95.

I have played with VMware and have decided that's not what I want to do.

My intention is to get party working under crossover this week, but I have a programming job that is taking longer than expected, so I might not be able to spend much time on it until next week.

If you undertake this project, please keep me informed of your progress and I will do the same. Do you use PokerTracker?

Just tried out Empire on VMware yesterday. Very straightforward and works just fine. Nothing to it, really.

Is VMware free/open source? Is it picky about which distro you're running?
