Greektowners- How do you do it?
I played at Greektown in Detroit for the second time last night and Im seriously doubting Ill ever go back. I know there are a few of you on here that go there regularly and I gotta say I dont know how you do it. Here are my rants:
-The people who run the wait list (brushers?) are terrible. I don't even know if they were paying any attention. Insanely slow at filling empty seats. -They were also rude. When one guy went up to them to ask about his position in line, the guy responded quite loudly, "Well the longer I have to sit here and explain it to you, the longer its gonna take." -Its dirty. Ashes on the table, way too much garbage under the tables. -Giving away free hot dogs and letting everyone eat them at the table is stupid for many reasons. -Most dealers suck at dealing. I can deal with some bad dealers, especially if they are new, but this was out of hand. -Dealers made a very poor effort to be friendly. I was thanked for about half of my tips. Thats about it. Im seriously confused how you guys can play there. Did I just have a bad experience or is this how it always is? |

Well, to begin with, this place is in Detroit, right? Any time you're near Detroit, say, Romulus or closer, you should immediately reduce your expectations for anything that may take place outside of The Joe.

I don't live there anymore but you got everything right. The rudeness of most staff members is appalling. Not enough competition.
But honestly, there are enough people in Detroit that the room should be filled to capacity at any non-oddball times, such as during the day. But it's not. Because the room sucks. -Michael |

Re: Greektowners- How do you do it?
We play there because it and Motorcity Casino are the only poker rooms within a 100 mile radius. I've never been to another poker room, but I always suspected the staff at other rooms couldn't possibly be as incompetent as the staff at Greektown.
Sometimes it seems like they deliberately stall when it comes to filling empty seats. I've seen multiple empty seats at the same table open for half an hour or more before being called. And this is with huge wait lists. Sometimes I just say f*ck it and sit down anyway. EDIT: Oh wait... I have played at Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant Michigan and it seemed to be a pretty decent room. What are the rooms like in Vegas? How is it different? Do they (gasp) actually fill empty seats by calling people who are on the waiting list? |

Mark, man...
I am a semi-regular at Greektown because it is the only game in town. And I just got back from Vegas. Your post makes me sad as it is right on! What can be done? |

Re: Greektowners- How do you do it?
Go to Vegas or L.A. and play. Until you get out of Detroit, you really have no idea. Rooms elsewhere still have a host of issues, but they are issues that Detroit will never even deal with because Greektown and Motor City are still trying to figure out rudimentary things like hiring someone who can deal and hiring a room manager that is not a complete moron.
IMO, if either of these rooms ever wants to be good, they're going to have to go outside and pluck somebody from Vegas or L.A. (or Tunica, Borgata, Foxwoods, etc.) to run the room. -Michael |

Re: Greektowners- How do you do it?
The reason people put up with the crap at greektown is because the games are just so much better than the rest of the state. I remembered that fact this weekend while playing 10-20 at soaring eagle (otherwise known as "the big game", lol) and watching all the tightasses steal and chop the blinds.
Oh, I guess I could head over to Little River and play some 4-8. . . |

You should buy it
A group of 2+2ers should get together and buy the place. Clean it up, advertise it, and you'd make a mint.

Re: Greektowners- How do you do it?
They remind me of high school bullies who couldn't make it as cops and ended up as "brushers." I've never heard that term before. What is their offical title?
