Canterbury Park...?
I absolutely hate to start a post like this, because I'm deadpan 100% positive it must have been covered before. However, I did some searches, and went back some pages, and wasn't able to find anything that detailed.
Basically, I may be taking a trip up to Shakopee for business (read as, I want to play so much poker I can't keep my eyes open) and just wanted to have a general idea of how big the card room is, what kind of games/limits do they regularly spread, any decent tournaments, etc? Is the poker room usually busy? Thanks in advance all. |

Re: Canterbury Park...?
its open 24-7, they spread 30-60,15-30,8-16, 6-12 etc. Only been there a few times, but I'd think you'd be able to find at least an 8-16 game at 4am. Peak times they'll have 20 tables running.

Re: Canterbury Park...?
They have 34 tables and usually the wait list is fairly long for all games up to 6/12. There are usually 1-3 tables of stud, maybe 1 table of Omaha Hi/8 (it's always the same 15 people that play), and the rest of the tables are various limit hold'em games.

I think the room is great. The dealers are and good and friendly for the most part. I think you'll like it.

Re: Canterbury Park...?
I made this post on the subject of limits. I notice that I have the day wrong for the $30/60 stud/8 game. That goes on Thursdays. There are 31 poker tables (they're numbered through 34, but there is no table 11, 13, or 18). The place is very full during the day on Tuesday, and evenings Thursday through Saturday. It is frequently pretty full on Sunday Get there early on Friday or Saturday, particularly if you're playing low-limit. The waits can be a few hours. I do not recommend their tournaments. The juice is high, and they seat 11 to a table, and they use some stud tables.

Re: Canterbury Park...?
any suggestions as to what games would usually be the best for someone accustomed to small-stakes online play (2/4)? i'm willing to jump up in limits about as high as 6/12, though i'd probably be more comfortable at 4/8 just considering the money at stake.
also, anyone know how that 4/8 o/8 game is? |

Re: Canterbury Park...?
I recommend the 4/8 game. The 3/6 is also extremely fishy if you wanna play that. In my experience the 6/12 isn't that great of a game relative to the other small stakes games, but I could have just hit it when there were more solid players on than usual.

Re: Canterbury Park...?
I don't really play on-line, but my understanding is that the $6/12 game plays a lot like an on-line $2/4 game. You might want to stick to $4/8 if you're worried about your comfort level.
The $4/8 Omaha/8 game is frequently pretty tight, usually the worst game in a the room. A couple of the right players can make it OK, but you're probably better off playing Hold'em. The $20/40 O/8 game is almost always much better. Go figure. |

Re: Canterbury Park...?
I'm not sure what limits you are accustomed to playing at, the 30/60 game can be fishy enough at times, 15/30 often is...and the 8/16 game is better than 6/12, been a while since I've played below 15/30 though so other people probably could better answer for the lower stakes games.
