Removing traces of Poker software from Browser
I downloaded Empire temporarily on my girlfriends laptop. I uninstalled the software but it leaves the text "Empire Poker" in the Internet Explorer/Tools drowdown menu.
It's probably not a big deal but I don't know if her work would frown on her having the software on there (or at one time having it installed). Anyone know how I can remove that? I did a search but didn't see a related post. Thank you, Robb |

Re: Removing traces of Poker software from Browser
Try Tools -> Manage add-ons, then disable it. I'm not sure off hand how to completely remove it. On my system I noticed party poker did a similar thing and this worked. Pretty rude installing IE addons without your knowledge if you ask me.

Re: Removing traces of Poker software from Browser
Hi joker,
Thanks for the reply. I assume you are referring to the 'Tools' dropdown inside the browser. If so I have no option called 'Manage Add-ons'. And no right click option is displayed when I right click on the Empire text. Any ideas? I'm on XP and IE6.0 |

Re: Removing traces of Poker software from Browser
I don't know the answer to your question, but wanted to add that even after you uninstall, an Empire folder remains in C:\Program Files (or wherever you installed it) that contains hand histories and maybe something else that I don't recall at the moment.

Also you may simply want to run an anti-spyware program.
Ad-aware has a free version. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ Spybot is another good one. |

Go to your registry keys, click local machine, cick current user, program files ( I think), and then see if empire poker folder is there. Delete the empire folder if there.

I also tried BHOdemon, which is for removing "browser help objects" (a lot of the MSIE "plugin" type annoyances are BHOs), but it didn't get it either. |

It should show up under the IE Extensions. Just highlight the key and delete it. The Empire cruft will be gone. If editing your registry makes you nervous, don't do this. |

ANSWER
Ok did some poking around.
To delete it off my girlfriends machine - deleting all instances in the Registry of EmpirePoker did the trick. Gusly was correct on the location of the exact key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/INTERNET EXPLORER/EXTENSIONS/{77E.....etc.) Your filename may not start with 77E so open the file to confirm there are 4 or 5 references to Empire. If you've uninstalled the software, delete the whole 77E file. If you aren't uninstalling the software and just want to get rid of the reference in IE: Delete the key inside the file called 'MenuText'. I don't know what deleting any of the other keys or the whole file will do if you still have the software installed. Since I'm not a Registry expert all I can post is what worked for me. In XP, the EmpirePoker reference was removed from IE instantly. On the Windows2000 machine I think I had to restart but I'm not positive. |
