Default newbie BM tips

i'll be heading over to commerce later tonight to play some NLHE. it'll be my first time playing NLHE in a BM, but I've been playing online for a few months now. is there any difference in play between BM and online? tight/loose, aggressive/passive? or does it just depend?

Just play your game. Other than that, here are a few first-timer tips:

1) Protect your cards with a few chips on top of them after you've looked.
2) Don't string bet. Either vocally declare that you're raising before doing anything with your chips or put all the chips out at once using one hand.
3) Don't act out of turn.
4) Don't forget to tip.
5) Don't wear sunglasses.
6) Talk to the other players at the table (but not if they're involved in a hand) - it's a fun game.

A little lesson I learned during my 1st B&M visit: if you ask the floorperson to bring you more chips, and before they arrive you're in a hand where you announce "all-in," those chips that have yet to arrive are included in that all-in. That was a fun lesson.

I was going to suggest this!

To the OP, when it comes to aggressive vs. passive I don't think B&M play can be pigeonholed into either category. It's similar to online really, you should be able to evaluate the table texture after an orbit or two. Someday maybe casinos will have little monitors above the table to show the average pot size and number seeing the flop.

Seriously? I can only think of one B&M game I've ever played that I'd call aggressive and even that was a lot more passive than the same limit online.

I'd agree with you regarding limit, but with NL I'm not as experienced, but also not as sure.

Limit I agree, it's more passive than online for sure usually.

Don't eat super-hot chicken wings. That always makes the BM experience painful.

Dude, you're going to Commerce. It is unimportant that you don't know anything about playing B&M, because neither does anyone else there. It's a complete free-for-all. If you read 2+2 you will be the best player at any Commerce 100NL table - You have nothing to worry about. And get ready to see some crazy [censored].
