Re: going to luxor in march
I played at the Luxor twice. It's a small poker area to the side of the casino; the 2/4 games a really loose and they do have tournaments pretty regularly. That's about all I know.

Re: going to luxor in march
In that case, I suggest you search this site a little better. This topic has probably been discussed in about 5 threads in the last couple days alone. Look through a couple pages of this forum, OOT, and the Texas Hold'em forum.

Re: going to luxor in march
Luxor great place to start for newbie b&m poker players but if you are an accomplished player then walk next door (all inside walkways) to the Mandalay Bay and play 4-8 limit holdem. I started at Luxor myself. But find Mandalay much better with excellent dealers, great jack pot payoffs, multiple 4-8 tables to choose to sit in on, etc. Played at Mandalay over 30 hours this new years weekend. Mandalay also has a no limit game with $100 minimum and $200 maximum buyin with 2-4 blinds for a very affordable no limit experience.

Re: going to luxor in march
allvegaspoker is a great site with very valuable information. That being said, I like Luxor, easy money. I've heard some people don't like it, whatever. Also, good for loose low-limit games is Imperial Palace. If you want to play well-run low buy-in tournies that actually have a decent structure, you have to try the Orleans. They have a good 4/8 game w/ half kill also.

Re: going to luxor in march
Did the same and started at Luxor. Actually I tried Excalibur's 1-2 first since I hadn't set down at a B&M before and had only had a couple of months internet play. Luxor was friendly/fun to learn -- even managed to win their crapshoot of a tourney. It starts limit with too rapidly rising blinds and then becomes NL. After a few days, I got tired of walking past the Mandalay Bay poker room (where I was staying) and gave it a try even though 4-8 seemed like a big step up from internet limits or 2-4. Turned out the players weren't that much better at Mandalay, just had more $.
So give Luxor a try to get started, but do take the advice to stop by Mandalay! Good luck. |

Re: going to luxor in march
I hate the Luxor. I've played there 6 or seven times and each time I go I wonder why the hell I'm there. Dealers have been spotty, ranging from good to inept to obsessed with telling anyone who will listen what a good internet poker player he is. I found the games at Mandalay to be great. A much nicer room with plenty of $$$ to be had.
Excalibur consistently has the best low limit game in my experience. The 2-6 spread is prime and there's a 100 max/min NL game that will pay you off if yer patient. More opinions on Excal here |
