Default My first hand post...

I am a newbie to the forum but not poker and this is my first hand post. Just wanted to know if anyone had any comments or suggestions on play or dealing with the “why were you even in the hand in the first place winner”.

The game is 6-12 Hold ‘Em (live play…so I will have do try my own hand conversion.)

Hero (Me) is in the BB with QQ

Preflop
Early (EP) limper, late (LP) limper, button, small blind all call
Hero raises (pot 10 bets or $60)

Flop is
3 8 7 rainbow

Hero bets first with QQ
EP folds, LP calls, button raises, hero reraises, LP caps it (pot contains 22 bets or $132)

Turn is a 3 (don’t remember suit)
Hero bets (hoping the paired board helped help my overpair)
LP calls and Button raises
Hero calls all in
LP calls
(pot now has $204 – 34? Bets) – Counted the large bet as 2

River is a 4…board is 8 7 3 3 4 (no flush)
Button bets (Hero is all-in) and LP calls

Results:
The button turns over 8 3 off suit for a full house (wins $228 – 38 bets)
LP mucks, hero folds QQ

I find that B&M California games are A LOT looser than online 5-10 games. My good hands seem to almost always get beat by a “why were you in the pot in the first place hand”

Any comments or suggestions?

I think you should have lost more. Don't get shortstacked in a ring game. Makes no sense.

Don't get frustrated. Playing in that type of game is profitable.

not having enough money to complete a hand is criminal.

And I love playing against people that do it. Played KK against AA last night that ran out of money pre-flop. Saved me a bundle...

My suggestion is to buy more chips and keep playing.

Next, play in a game exactly like this 3 or 4 times a week for the next year. After this kind of thing happens to you a few thousand times, you will either go insane or you will learn to let these kinds of things roll right off your back.

Thanks for your input. I know that I am GUILTY of playing "short" for the limits I play - either not buying in enough or rebuying enough. And I don't think I've given much importance to bankrolls and the management of them (I like the "Rags to Riches" stories.)

But, since bankroll was a common comment that you guys gave me and something that many 2+2ers discuss, I will weigh on it heavier in 2005. I am trying to plug up leaks in my game, and I'm pretty sure that is one of them. Thanks again.

Nothing you can do. He got strung out for the 2 bets trying to see a flop with position. My guess is he doesn't cold-call 2 bets. Once the flop hits, you're sunk.

And like everyone else said, buy-in for more.
