Default What do you guys think of Zen and the Art of Poker?

Zen and the Art of Poker is by Larry Phillips and it's supposed to be a good book dealing with poker psychology.

Is it worth reading? I own it. Haven't opened it up yet.

quick read, and a few interesting quotes and such, but definately not an amazing book. Schoonmakers book is def better for the psychological aspect of poker.

Since you already have it though, you might as well go thru it... don't expect anything great, or tremendous insight, but it is quick as I said.

If you are interested in the Psychological side of the game, Inside the Poker Mind is also very good.

It isn't a 2+2 book, so it must be worthless.

At least thats what half the people on here would have you believe.

Read the Suzuki book, its from 2+2! It's got to be good!

Good book. Read it. Discount the advice on rushes though. That is why the book gets so much criticism. Schoonmaker's book is mistitled "The Pyschology Of Poker" it should be titled "Game Texture" or some such. "Inside The Poker Mind" has some good articles on the psychological side of poker.

Don't forget The Tao of Poker by the same author. Both books are good for the times when you are waiting for a table.

It's a fun book - no meat.

I've given it as a gift to some of my poker buddies. I wouldn't give my "buddies" a 2+2 book, I don't want them to have the ammunition

I'm only asking because others have said not to read other books that I already own because they contain too much incorrect information.
