No Limit, tournaments or limit?
I've played poker for over 30 years but have only begun a serious study over the past year. I've devoured all the top books, DVD's, logged countless hours online and played in casinos and run a weekly home game. The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know, especially after reading all of Slansky's books.
I keep accurate records and clearly the easiest game for me is my home game. Obviously I am limited to 2 or 3 times a month for a home game and I was wondering where the best opportunities are in Texas Hold Em outside of home games. Specifically what areas provide the best expected profit opportunities, tournaments, no limit ring games or limit ring games. Then as a follow up what is the best venue, online or B&M? I hear fantastic stories of people winning constantly online, but poker being a people game a good player would seem to have a better edge in live games. It also seems that no limit ring games would favor the better player more so than limit or tournament play. Thank you for any feedback. |

Re: No Limit, tournaments or limit?
This would obviously depend on what your strengths are. But let's assume you are equally skilled on all types of games. If this was the case, then I would play the limit cash games with rake back.
The reason why I say this is because 1) You should be playing with a rake back deal no matter what anyway. 2) If so, and assuming you are equally skilled in Tournaments, vs NL, vs Limit, then the one major deciding factor is which type of game will allow you to maximize the rake back. The answer to this I believe is the limit game. With limit games you can easily multi-table and play ABC poker upto about 5/10 level. I haven't played too many NL, but I would think it is harder to breeze thru hands since there's more thinking involved on how much to bet and other strategies. With tournaments, rakeback is probably not that big a deal. |

Re: No Limit, tournaments or limit?
I prefer live NL cash games and tournaments. I like the live people reading skills aspect.
As far as cash vs. tourny, I play both. The tournys obviously have higher possible payouts, but you have escalating blinds and a timed blinds. Cash games have stable blinds and you can play all night. |
