NL tourneys: small pairs from EP with a short stack

say you have 10-15 BBs. you are short but not extremely desperate, yet. you are dealt a small pair (say 22-55) UTG or UTG+1. what will you generally do?

I dont even consider 15BB in mid--late tourney short stacked. It isnt cumfy so Ill definitely go with hands like JJ and QQ without thinking to hard but now way I think about getting real tricky with 44 or something.

There are two reasons why you generally need to throw away small pairs from EP with a short stack. Most importantly, you are playing small pairs for their set value. When you have 10BBs or less you don't really have the implied odds necessary. At 15BBs, you might have implied odds but you don't have a lot of chips to fold to a raise so you have to be pretty confident that you can get in cheaply. The second reason, related to the last point, is that (especially later in a tournament) few pots go unraised pre-flop. So if you limp early you're bound to face a raise and you definitely don't have implied odds to call one.

Lloyd if it is multi way I might call a 2BB raise with a pp. It just has such huge implied odds at that point...especially 4 ways..

I think it would be a huge mistake to call any type of a raise when you have a small pair in EP. You'll still have several people to act behind you who can re-raise costing you precious chips.

At 10BB I absolutely concur @ 15...I think I need to take that chance and at 20 I call with no hesitation...just my personal style..some players value baby pairs higher than others..Cloutier doesnt even play them in EP at the beginning of tourneys or so his book says...I think thats a mistake personally and players like Ivey seem to value them highly..while others not so high.

IF I SAID OUT LOUD, "at 15 I might take a flop...at 25 Im sure to call", would that make sense??

the problem here is that you can almost never limp and get inplied odds, since most times you will get raised off your hand. i think this is a fold barring unusual circumstances.
