Me (atheist) and my brother (v. religious) agreed that no one can be 100% certain that God does, or does not exist. Which got me thinking, what % likelihood do people attach to the existence of God.
Imagine some Scientist announces that he has categorically proven whether God exists or not, and will release his findings in two weeks time. In the meanwhile, bookmakers are taking bets on the findings. At what price would you be willing to bet that God does exist? The smarter of you will have realised that there is a logical inconsistency in my prose. As it is impossible to prove that God does not exist, the scientist could only have proven that God does exist. Please ignore this contradiction. The verse about the Scientist was only intended to try and put the question in some kind of context. Personally, I would bet at 10-1 or so. |

...on how you define "God". [/ QUOTE ] It's impossible to define "god" in a clear, consistent non-tautological manner. Therefore, one can't, meaningfully, give odds on his "existence".... It's a "mystery".... |

That's not my point. For the purpose of the poll simply come up with *any* definition, i.e. 1) Allah as undestood ny Osama bin Laden or 2) The Taoist "uncarved block" or 3) the accepted Hindu Pantheon, or 4) the Christian God as accepted by Jerry Falwell, etc. As it is, I don't know what I'd be betting on.
