88 with interesting reads
MP1 is loose/typical. BB is tilting at the moment -- I semibluffed him out with marginal holdings several times, then he fought back when I hit my set of aces, now he's committed to just calling me down whenever I'm in a pot.
Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, Hero calls, MP3 calls, 3 folds, BB checks. Flop: (5.33 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players) BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 bets, Hero raises, MP3 folds, BB calls, UTG folds, MP1 3-bets, Hero caps, BB calls, MP1 calls. Turn: (8.66 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) BB checks, MP1 bets, Hero calls, BB calls. River: (11.66 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) BB checks, MP1 bets, Hero calls, BB calls. The actual play looks obvious enough...the question is whether I have enough overlay from BB to call down if I hadn't picked up the gutshot on 4th street. |

Re: 88 with interesting reads
Why did you cap the flop? A loose/typical Party player isn't 3-betting that flop with a draw or top pair. Calling down later is probably OK, once you pick up the gutshot. On the river, you're probably still beat - he probably filled up a boat.
I guess you can call if he's the type that might limp with a lousy hand like 72s, which is about the only hand he would 3-bet the flop with that you're ahead of. I guess you can call for the size of the pot, but I wouldn't expect to win. Even if you're ahead of MP2, the BB may have beat you on the turn or river. |

Re: 88 with interesting reads
I capped the flop because (1) there's a small chance I'm ahead (2) BB will call (3) there are lots of turn cards a bad player might give me for free. Straight cards, flush cards...maybe even paired boards or aces depending on what he holds.

I capped the flop because (1) there's a small chance I'm ahead (2) BB will call [/ QUOTE ]I disagree with the flop cap, too. You actually think you're raising for value? Even if you know the BB will call two cold (You don't.), you think you have a better than 1/3 chance of winning the hand? I'm not so sure about the river call, either. The paired under-card is NOT a blank. It can't help. I know BB is tilting, but he still has cards, too. You're sure he's calling with a 2, huh? -Sam |

Re: 88 with interesting reads
Reason #3 is the most important. It's just not enough reason on its own; #1 & 2 push it just over the line for me.
BB has already called 2 once and seems determined to bust me. For now, I'll say that MP1 came in 3rd. |

Re: 88 with interesting reads
MP1 had A7o. (I revised my read a bit after this, obviously.) BB holds the almighty T5o, and MHING.
I still like my attempt to regain control of the hand before the bet size doubles, but it's close; many of SSH's caveats from "two overpair hands" apply, I'll grant. |

Re: 88 with interesting reads
The possibility of picking up a draw on the turn really shouldn't get you this excited.
