Colorado Poker
Hey,
I live in Denver and haven't been up to Central City/Blackhawk yet. Are there any good poker rooms up in the casinos here in Colorado? What limits? Lots of fish? Good amenities? Worth the trip up? How about any kind of organized poker games in and around Denver? Any ideas? Appreciate any info you guys can give me. Thanks, Swede |

Re: Colorado Poker
I've been a fair bit. There are poker rooms at the Lodge, Fortune Valley (Central City), Mountain High and I may be missing one or two. Those are the places I've played in.
The games I've seen are all spread-limit games. Either $2-$5 (which is all I play up there) with one $2 blind or $5-$5 with two blinds (I think $2 small, $5 BB, but don't recall). From my experience the games are typically loose. Not usually very aggressive although you may encounter a few aggressive players. VERY liberal starting standards. Any ace (sometimes whether or not suited) typically plays, certainly most suited cards! Not a lot of tricky play. In fact, if you check-raise it raises some eyebrows. If you haven't played spread-limit its a little differrent. You certainly can discourage draws in my opinion a little more on the flop by charging a big bet ($5) versus only a small bet in a typical fixed-limit game. All in all, I think the games are pretty good. I am by no means a great player, I'm learning all the time and haven't played as much as I'd like, but I haven't had many losing sessions in blackhawk. Have fun. |
