It's a place to start, if you want free. As for a hand chart, you're going to have a hard time finding one, I think. You want to play hands that can win both ways with all of the card working together. So, A2AK double suited is nice. A2A3 double suited is better, in my opinion since there is some counterfeit protection.

You should go to Borders or Barnes & Noble and take a close look at the Tenner/Krieger Omaha/8 book, which lists some basic starting hands - you can just write them down, I suppose. However, the book is worth owning.

Of course, Ray Zee's 2+2 split games book is great, but not a beginner's reference.

Wow, after reading that article, I'm thinking about learing Omaha. Sounds way more profitable for an educated player than holdem.

Several drawbacks
1) Hands take longer = fewer hands/hr
2) Takes longer for mechanical play postflop = longer road to efficient multitabling

Overall I think it's a great game. I've been playing it recently on a few tables and really enjoying it.

I know Steve Badger has given point counts a bad name (in fairness, his site posted a rebuttal by Hutchison, but I think he vastly underrates them. Sure, when I'm playing O8 like Annie Duke or at least like Buzz on the Other Poker forum [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img], then i'll be able to look at all for cards and make a global assessment of how they fit together. Until then, the point count emphasizes attributes of pairs of cards that are important.

I don't have the experience to disagree with Badger but in many ways Omaha hands do seem more like six pairs of cards.

I suspect anyone who uses Hutchinson will move on once they get experience with the game. This being said,

On those few occasions where I play Omaha hi/low, I've used Hutchinson's system. Certainly it will keep you in the game against weak competition and maybe make you a winner.

He also has a system for Limit Hold 'em. The limit system seems to be somewhat tighter than any of the charts in the basic texts.

However, if you're starting out there are many things worse than being too tight (and not all that many things that are better). Hutchinson also has the major advantage of being easy to memorize, so you're not fumbling along holding the game up trying to figure out what to do.
