Default What is average night at 1/2

I am up to 1/2 and I think I am going strong but not sure.

What is an average amount to win in an average session at 1/2? I only play one table and don't have poker tracker or pay 100% attention to hands I am not in. I do get reads but I know they would be better if I payed 100% attention to every hand. Use a 2-4 hour time frame. Last night I went up $55 pretty quickly, then lost $45 of it, and finish the night $84 up. Previous nights this week were up $36, down $23(2+2 table), up $32, up $40.

Is this average or below average results?

There really won't be many 'average' nights for you, and it's hard to say what one is, since we usually talk in terms of BB/100 hands. Given the amount of variance you'll seem from night to night, you'll need to play a lot more before you know if you're truly doing well or not; you will win some nights, and lose others, but only the long run will clue you in to if you're successful at 1/2.

depending on how many hands you play, those are above average results and likely wont last.

if you play 3 hours a night, 50 hands an hour, you should expect to make about 6 bucks per table per night. assuming a 2BB/100 win rate.

however, as the other replier noted, it's going to be MUCH more swingy than that and counting on your average return from each table each night just aint gonna happen

I think that you need to buy poker tracker. I consider it an essential and I'm about 70% done with my 10k hands at .5/1. I can't imagine playing higher limits without it.

What is the long run? My goal is to get to 2/4. Using the 300BB bank roll standard I will build my bank roll to that in
say, two weeks. I do play almost every night and read alot. I was going to try 6 max 1/2 when I get to $1,000 but am now starting to think to skip it and just stick to full tables at all levels, for now anyway. Am I moving up to quickly? Am I getting better results because I only play one table? Or maybe I can sniff out fish better then average. I have taken corrections, but I just tighten up to say a rock and get through them. Is it better to go beyond $1,200 before I jump to 2/4?

Average night = losing whatever the total rake for the night is divided by the number of players.

Average night for posters here hopefully is at least positive although sometimes I wonder.

there is no such thing as a truly average night. Just play winning poker.

not if you're willing to drop down.

as far as moving up too fast, personally, I'm bankrolled for 2/4 thanks to bonus whoring, but I want to prove I'm beating 1/2 first. if you feel you're beating 1/2 and have the bankroll, then hell why not take a shot

if you have a bankroll for 1/2 (600 bucks +) then pokertracker is so +EV that it isnt funny.
