Default Card Bending

I have been playing internet Hold 'Em for a couple years now, well about a year and a half for real money. Anyways I've played in some home games, and have developed a certain way I look at my cards. Nothing fancy, but I tend to cover them with my left hand, _slightly_ bend them with my right and split the top and bottom card, put them on the table slightly bend them the other way and either muck in turn, or put a chip on them. Okay, I probably picked this up from watching TV, but I tried this in a local card room here in florida and immediately the player next to me asked for a new deck before the next hand. The cards were clearly not bent and neither the dealer or any player said anything to me. I kept looking at my cards the way I always have, and the player that asked for the new deck just up and left. Are you generally allowed to look at your cards in this manner? Am I lacking proper poker etiquette, or is this lady just paranoid? Can I expect a floor person to tackle me out of my chair at some point?

You did nothing wrong. If you bent them so dramatically that the card stayed bent, thats an issue, but it doesn't sound like thats what happened.

Is there any other way that players look at your cards? (other than taking them up off the table for the whole world to see)

I guess you could turn both face up and ask around, "Hey guys, these any good?"

It seems quite possible that you looking at your cards and the deck change request are coincidental. Her actions are consistent with a frustrated losing player: deck change to improve her luck, sudden departure when the luck didn't improve.

Great.. As this was my first time in an ACTUAL casino. I just wanted to make sure. With all the players sitting so close together I didn't want to adapt a more revealing technique. So it was either coincidence, or she can kiss my ass. I like that.

I think you're right. The vast majority of deck changes and seat changes are by people trying to change their luck, rather than people concerned that the cards are mrked or trying to get better position relative to a maniac or fish.
