AK - I hate my play
Ever play a hand that you hate (and you don't know why) or think you might hate, but you're not sure? I did it here. Where did I go wrong? UTG+1 is LAG PF, then normal. Other reads nonexistent.
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, 2 folds, SB completes, Hero raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP3 calls, SB folds. Did I play this street right? I think I'm more interested in my flop play than any other street. I'm pretty sure I play it the same way, what are you not sure about?

Re: AK - I hate my play
one of the biggest improvements I've made recently is learning when to give up with overcards. first of all, you're out of position against 3 other players on a draw heavy board with no backdoor draws and overcards that could very well be reverse dominated. I'd check. given that UTG+1 probably would've bet you can call since you're closing the action. the turn probably calls for a check-fold

Re: AK - I hate my play
I would also check the flop and see what happens, usually calling for just one bet. Three opponents is the toughest situation for this. On this coordinated board where a bet has little chance of picking up the pot, this is an automatic check against four or more opponents and an automatic bet against only two.
Change the flop to 872 and I bet. -Michael |

Re: AK - I hate my play
so you check that, sthief? Do you check/call or check/fold? How often for which? I'm really predictable with my preflop raise and flop bet pattern... it's about 75% that I bet/raise the flop after I raise preflop.

Re: AK - I hate my play
hm, cool... so another longtime poster saying check here, and because the flop is looking pretty good. I need to think about my play in these situations.

Re: AK - I hate my play
I think I'd end up betting the flop as and calling a raise almost every time, but check/calling the flop may very well be the right play. It is especially attractive if you bet unimproved overcards on the flop later, since those who might actually pay attention to how you play may fold assuming you have a high pocket pair.
Upon further review I'd check/fold the turn. |

Re: AK - I hate my play
I'm still not there with my overcards. I saw this flop come out, and I was thinking there's no way I can bet this. But due me being on the bandwagon of reckless aggression, I bet and tied myself up for a call to the raise.
With how I had played the hand, I was given 9.5-1 to call the turn. I thought I had 5 outs, which I planned to bet/fold if I hit them. |
