![]() Hey folks. Party 6-max $25 NL I'm in MP with Queens. UTG raises to $3, this is the first time I've have seen him raise in the 15 minutes i've been at the table. He has played very few hands and I havent seen any of his cards yet. He has ~$40, i have him covered. I raise to $9 (good/bad?). Folded round to the raiser, he pushes... Eventually I fold. Weak? Terrible? Good? Cheers for any comments! |

a while ago, there was a big debate about playing QQ preflop.
search for QQ on small stakes forum and you should find it. |

Your re-raise is fine. I might do less, but its in the range. I might flat call with position and see what the flop brings and how he reacts to it. You might land a Q and then he pushes.
But I would fold. If he is a moron pushing JJ or less you'll figure it out soon enough and pound him in a 6-max ring. Otherwise you are hoping he has AK, which is +EV to call with the pot where it is but not great EV. |

since you said he is solid...then you are either a slight favorite (AK vs QQ) or a big dog (AA, KK vs QQ). Your 2 choices preflop were to smooth call, see a flop and figure it out from there. or re-raise preflop. I think either way is fine, but I know that once I see a flop with a hand like QQ, and it comes all under cards...I am going to lose some more money (even if I do eventually fold).....so I like your play.
on the other hand, If I am him....and I hold AA,KK...I smooth call your reraise, trying to get allin on a good flop...and paying you off if you flop a Q Fireman |

I agree with what you say.
However, part of the reason I rereraise preflop with AA/KK instead of smooth call is that if a A or K flops, my action on the flop will be killed. Also, seeing as how I don't know whether he has QQ or AKs (although you don't see reraises with AKs very often, but its been known to happen), if he has AKs and the flop rags, my action is killed as well. I just realized my 2 statements are inherently contradictory. |

i'd probably call. you've only played ~20 hands with this guy - hard to get too much of a read. at the 25 tables you get people overvaluing mediocre hands like AJ. if one of you had 25 instead of 40, it'd be easy, but i'd still call here.

i didnt mean to imply that there's necessarily anything wrong with it, just saying that the fact that you win way more with AA/KK vs AKs when you reraise perflop vs. smoothcalling.
