Default Preflop 102 - 3-Betting

I'm still trying to get a better feel for this topic. 3-betting is either for value or isolation. As always, I know there's are a ton of specific situations that makes it difficult to make a nice, neat set of guidelines but I'd just like some general thoughts.

Basic 3-betting hands:
AA-99, AKs or o, AQs and KQs regardless of number of opponents. I would think this list is pretty much a given unless Tighty McWhitey is the initial raiser.

How about some specific situations of other hands. How would you handle these?

1. A-Js in the BB. UTG limps, button raises, SB folds.

2. 8-8 on the button. UTG limps, CO raises.

3. K-Js in the SB. Button open raises.

4. A-9s in the BB. SB open raises.

5. A-10s in the CO. UTG+1 open raises, folded to you.

6. K-Qo on the button. CO open raises.

7. A-Jo in the SB. UTG raises, folded to you.

8. A-Js on the button. UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, CO calls.

I'm really interested in the responses of more experienced players, but I would say:

1. Flat call
2. Fold!
3. Flat call - you don't want to reraise with this out of position
4. Sometimes reraise, sometimes flat call!
5. Reraise or fold (to a tight raiser)
6. Flat call!
7. Flat call or more likely FOLD!
8. Flat call!

Wow, I love to flat call a lot. This could be a leak for me.

I'm talking about a loose aggressive game with these responses, probably seen more at 10/20 and up than 5/10 and down.

1. A-Js in the BB. UTG limps, button raises, SB folds. --- Call or raise depending on mood/situation

2. 8-8 on the button. UTG limps, CO raises. --- Raise/Fold depending.

3. K-Js in the SB. Button open raises. --- Raise

4. A-9s in the BB. SB open raises. --- Call or Raise depending

5. A-10s in the CO. UTG+1 open raises, folded to you. Raise/Fold depending.

6. K-Qo on the button. CO open raises. --- Raise unless he's tight.

7. A-Jo in the SB. UTG raises, folded to you. --- Fold unless UTG is very LAG then 3-bet.

8. A-Js on the button. UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, CO calls. --- Call

B.

The usual disclaimer: "Assuming no reads..."

1. A-Js in the BB. UTG limps, button raises, SB folds.

- One of the few situations where I might cold call.

2. 8-8 on the button. UTG limps, CO raises.

- Reraise. Gotta try to knock out the blinds and UTG.

3. K-Js in the SB. Button open raises.

- Reraise most of the time. Cold call isn't terrible.

4. A-9s in the BB. SB open raises.

- Definitely reraise. Should not even be a second thought unless they have the tightest SB steal requirements known to man.

5. A-10s in the CO. UTG+1 open raises, folded to you.

- Very player dependent. Assuming they haven't gotten out of line, I might fold this.

6. K-Qo on the button. CO open raises.

- I'd probably toss it.

7. A-Jo in the SB. UTG raises, folded to you.

- Again, very player dependent. If UTG has loose standards, I'm reraising. If not... ick... I think you're getting enough pot equity to call, but I'm folding any unfavorable flop.

8. A-Js on the button. UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, CO calls.

- Reraise. Great pot equity. Usually in this situation, UTG+1 and CO have small pocket pairs, mid suited connectors, etc... I don't think you can assume UTG has you dominated.

i thought i was in SS when i replied to this first. so here it is revised:

1. A-Js in the BB. UTG limps, button raises, SB folds.
3bet.

2. 8-8 on the button. UTG limps, CO raises.
3bet.

3. K-Js in the SB. Button open raises.
bet.

4. A-9s in the BB. SB open raises.
3bet.

5. A-10s in the CO. UTG+1 open raises, folded to you.
fold.

6. K-Qo on the button. CO open raises.
3bet.

7. A-Jo in the SB. UTG raises, folded to you.
fold.

8. A-Js on the button. UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, CO calls.
3bet.

these could all be played differently depending on the opponent(s) but against an unknown this is what i do.

1. Probably call 50% and 3-bet 50%
2. 3-bet
3. 3-bet
4. 3-Bet
5. 3-bet
6. 3 bet
7. Call
8. 3 bet

Maybe I'm a little LAG?

1. A-Js in the BB. UTG limps, button raises, SB folds. -3bet

2. 8-8 on the button. UTG limps, CO raises. -3bet

3. K-Js in the SB. Button open raises. -3bet

4. A-9s in the BB. SB open raises. -call for deception

5. A-10s in the CO. UTG+1 open raises, folded to you. depends on specific reads maybe just call

6. K-Qo on the button. CO open raises. -3bet

7. A-Jo in the SB. UTG raises, folded to you. -call

8. A-Js on the button. UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, CO calls. 3bet/call

I usually 3bet any big Ace against a steal and any big ace against a loose raiser. I'm less inclined to 3bet KQs KQo KJs unless it is against a steal because these hands dont have the advantage of Ace high. 88 and better is a 3bet for me as well.
