Default New Cards

I saw a website that is pushing Piatnik cards. Are these better than KEM? Any other options, recommendations, etc?

piatnik is a good PAPER card brand, their StarClub line is as good or slightly better than Bee. I also have a deck of OPTI jumbo index, but wasn't as impressed with those. OPTI is stiff and not coated very well.

not sure if piatnik makes plastic decks, but for poker width standard index I think A-Plus is the best overall value right now.

I've got a pack of Royal Plastic cards comming in the mail now, it was 9.99 for two decks shipped. I've also heard good thing about the Copag cards, and if I don't like the Royals I will be trying those next.

On the other hand I have nothing but bad things about A-Plus decks, I heard they mark real fast and don't last long at all.

you're ragging on $22 A-Plus decks and then you buy ROYALS? Good luck with that. Major CA cardrooms such as Commerce and Bicycle Casino already use A-Plus brand for most of their tables - once you receive your two $5 Royal decks, let me know if you think any legitimate casino would ever consider using them instead.

Copags are about the same quality as KEM and they cost about 30% less. The only problem with Copag right now is they most of their cards are in jumbo index format, though I heard that will be corrected shortly. For standard index and wide poker width, you can go with A-Plus and maybe Gemaco 5-star.

And perhaps you can let us know what you think about these cards once you actually USE them, and not just by what you may have "heard".

I can make this my 500th post with confidence.

Royal palstic cards will be VERY disappointing to you. They are really bad. They aren't cut quite right, have no texture, and all the patterns and graphics start wearing off within a week. I had to stop using mine after a few days, because the backs of the cards basically became "marked". Royal brand plastic cards have been discontinued, due to lack of quality and poor sales. They were made in Japan and were only produced for a year or two.

If you paid $9.99 for those cards, they were seriously overpriced. I actually saw one website giving them away for free. They quickly ran out of stock, but they couldn't get rid of them any other way.

Next time, pick up some KEMs. After cursing at the Royal cards for a few weeks, the difference will be like night and day.

The only difference of opinion I have is that I don't think they are up to the same quality if you take "feel" into consideration. For some people the more slippery Copag's may be alright, but I prefer the more textured feel of KEMs

I have heard that A-Plus and Gemaco make good cards. Since some casinos have been switching from KEM to A-Plus, I'm going to have to check those out.

PS- Yes, if that poster expects Royals to be better than those "bad" A-Plus cards, he will be quite disappointed. I think those Royal cards are possibly the worst plastic cards ever produced.

I have heard nothing but good things about A-Plus cards.

Yes, I bought some too (before I knew better ). I got a blue and red deck. Each deck had a printing error on the back of one of the cards.

I bought a couple decks of kems and copags and they are both really nice.

I haven't tried a-plus.

I was never trying to make a comparison between Royals and A-Plus. I've never used either, and never said anything good about Royals, just what I have heard (on this forum) about A-plus cards. Royals will probably be junk, but I had to give them a shot.

Also, Copag does have regular index (bridge and poker size) cards. http://www.copagcards.com/products.php?categoryid=1 is a link to the bridge size ones.

Copags are the next cards I am going to try for sure.
