Default expert play

ub 10/20 7 handed

i hadn't played ub in a while, so i played a couple of orbits. table is semi-tight/semi-passive. no real read on my opponenet except that he fits well with the table, i.e. is semi-tight/semi-passive but probably a tad more aggressive than the rest

co open limper. i raise on the button with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] sb folds. bb calls. co calls. 3 of us to the flop for 6.5 small bets.

flop: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

bb checks. co checks. i bet. bb raises. co folds. i 3-bet. bb caps. i call.

turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

bb bets. i call.

river: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

bb bets. i raise. bb 3-bets. i do my reverse phil hellmuth impression and say "chris, how does it feel to be drawing dead the whole way?" to myself and fold.

Chris,

How come you didn't just call down the whole way?

Not possible for you to be drawing dead the whole way.

Shrug, call the river. This play really doesn't seem to be appropriate with your description of the table.

Smells like an over pair in the hole to me. I call the turn and river. I think that your opponent will often enough have unpaired overcards to make or a draw that the call call will work out for you in the the long run. If you have a read or instinct is teling you you're crushed; fold and don't look back.

You think he's 3 betting the river with overs or a busted draw?

I'm pretty sure he is saying just call river rather than raise in the first place.

Oh, I gotcha. Yea, after that flop cap I agree that BB could probably beat top pair. But calling the river after his hand improved would not be very CDCish now would it?

Did you think the BB was betting 78 the whole way and got counterfeited by the river? That's the only reason I see for the river raise, I doubt you're going to get him to fold after he capped the flop.
