Default Race to 20k

Me and my best friend have been playing poker together since we were 17, sneaking into casinos and all the like.
We have both been successful high stakes players for about a year and half now. We're both 22 now. We have placed a 20,000$ wager on a little online race.

Here are the details. First one to make 20,000 in profit on the internet wins. However, all 20,000 must be profit and we can only start with 100 dollars. If we bust out we can rebuy, but we have to earn the 100 we lost back. We have to start at 1-2 limit and move up 1 limit at a time only when we have 200 big bets at the next level. We are currently 2 days deep in the race and we are neck and neck, im up to 500 in profit at 1-2, and he is sitting at 390. We are both playing about the same number of hands, 4 tabling about 3 hours a day on average id say. We are both beating 1-2 for something crazy im like 7.9 bb/100 and hes around 5, but the sample size is small, and i doubt we'll be there long enough to even it out.

Anyway ill keep you guys updated.

it sounds fun, but it will take a good amount of time, and some luck by staying away from some harsh downswings to make it happen.

This is a horrible idea. basically i think whoever wins will probably feel bad at taking his buddies 20k, and the loser will hate the winner for actually going through. near the final stretch this race for 40,000 dollars that you have invested so much time and money in will end up with you forgetting everything else in your life such as your job, your girlfriend, your education and so on. Furthermore you may win and your friend wont pay, or vice versa. Im sure your good friends but 20,000 is a lot for a friendship. What if any problems arise in the middle of the contest such as an accident or something? this will certainly impact the contest and i doubt you will both be civil when there is 40k on the line. What if one of you gets there, and the other one goes bankrupt, or only made it to 5k? hes know 15k in the hole. This idea has disaster written all over it. just horrible.

A better idea would be to make a gentlemans bet, or something big but reasonable. say 1000.

really really horrible

You bet $20,000 on who will make $20,000 first!?!? So, basically, the winner earns a net gain of $40,000....?

And you're starting at $1/$2!?!?

I'd hate to lose this bet. Especially If I was only able to make $5-$10K by the time the other guy reaches $20K. All the wasted money....... and hours.......

Good luck...

funny idea, but stupid. for the reasons above. why waste time.

one thing some friends and i ussed to do on a boring night was start with 20$ at the party .5/1. You move up every time you have 20 big bets to the next level. It costs 100$ to enter this, and at the end of 5 hours whoever is on the highest level takes the pot. If you bust you have to start over again with 20$ and re-enter the pot.

another fun this is last longer side bets in tournies that dont involve money. ie: person who loses has to get the number of 3 fat chicks tomorrow night.

Why do you guy's assume $20,000 is a lot to him? Just cause he's young? He said he's been playing high limit games since he was 17.

God I wish I learned this game at 17. I'd be playing 20-40 by now. I have to wallow in 5-10 purgatory.

Yea thats what I was going to say. Me and him started off sharing a bankroll, and at this point 20k isnt a large percentage of either of our total bankroll, plus I figure once we get to the end, we will be pretty close, ie one of us will have made 15 and the other made the whole 20. I'd probly just wave the other 5k and tell him to just transfer me the 15 online. so, the money isnt a big deal, but the time kind of is. However, 20k, ive worked it out like this, im up to 600 now, i should make it to 2-4(800bucks) in a day or 2, 3-6(1200) in another 2-4 days, then 5-10 in a week or 2, then 10-20 about a month later, then from 10-20 to 15-30 wont take that long. Once im at 15-30 4 tabling the money is good again. We are putting a daily handlimit on it now since we dont want to put alot of time into it. More just to see how long it takes us to go from 0-20k. my estimate is 3months playing alot, probly 5 months doing it this way.

We are both college students, and alot of our friends started playing poker lately, and they have been telling us about their wins and losses online (usually bad beats after they bust out) and most of campus comes to tell us cause they know we play limits that are unheard of to them. One of our good friends won about 4000 after clearing bonuses and stuff, and we were talking about when we first started off busting out over and over and stuff. We wondered how long it would take us now that we know that we are winning players to rebuild from scratch.
So, We will still play like we normally do, just toss a couple hours to the bet each week. Im thinking like 1000 hands a day or something would be reasonable, not sure yet, any suggestions?

IMO, this is an incredibly bad bet.

I don't believe this for a second. It's too dumb to believe.
