That's probably how I would play it, although that particular situation has been identified by me as a possible leak in my game.

Just out of curiosity, why did you bet the river?

I'd checkraise the flop and lead the turn here almost all of the time.

Check raise the flop and lead out on the turn.

To get a better hand to fold.

Ok -- I was certain that was it. Just wanted to check.

I would play it just as you did. Leading the flop, because if I get raised on the flop, I am probably backing off and check calling the turn, and check folding the river. Saving one small bet, but possibly folding on the river to a lesser hand (flush draw that decides to bet the turn and river as bluff).

I agree with the others that checkraising the flop and betting the turn is best. The river is tough. It's pretty player dependant. Once I'm called on the turn I give it up a lot of the time, because usually if these guys ccall the turn with an ace they will pay it off on the river when a blank hits. However there are players who will call the turn hoping to spike something and will fold unimproved on river. IMO it basically comes down to your image at the time, and the tendancies of the player on the button. He doesnt have to fold very often on the river for your bet to be correct, I dont think you played this one too badly.

I also think the button owes a raise somewhere in here, but I can't decide if it's on the flop or the turn.

Again, this may (or may not) be a leak in my game.

I think its good that you posting the hands that involve tough decisions, instead of the ones you know you played perfectly. Looks like your coach has a lot of good feedback, and you seem to have a pretty good grasp of whats going on. I'm sure you are going to be fine in this game real soon. Good luck.
