Default Voluntarily showing hands after everyone has folded

Here's a situation from a home game. All but me and the player to my left folded after the flop because I showed strength early and on the flop. The player I was heads up with call my flop and turn bet. After my river bet he folded. Before I tossed my cards in, I showed him my cards to show him he did the right thing (he's not a very good player and I always feel kind of sorry winning all his money). Several people at the table then demanded that they see my hand. I argued that when everybody folds, the winner doesn't have to show his hand. So therefore, if he selectively shows it to some people and not others, it's his right to do so. Somebody brought up the point that it shouldn't be allowed because collusion could be occurring. I didn't really care one way or the other, and willingly showed everyone the hand, but it got me thinking what the general rule is here. What if this occurred in a casino...would it cause a problem? Anybody have any thoughts?

Wrong, Show one show all. If you did this in a casino and a player said soemthing the dealer should flip you're hand over face up.

The other players won't care most of the time, but if someone does ask (espcially in a semi-friendly home game) dont be too worried about giving up info.

From: homepokertourney's - Robert's Rules

"THE SHOWDOWN

5. Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that has been called, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked. However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are live, and the best hand wins.

6. If you show cards to an active player during a deal, any player at the table has the right to see those exposed cards. Cards shown during or after a deal to a player not in the pot should be shown to all players when the deal is finished ."

I play in a tourney on Wed nights. $20 buyin, NL. Those idiots do the one card winning hand BS. "Can you beat an Ace?" They almost never show both cards. Total BS. No one complains, so last week, when it happend and the guy had a pair of 5's to win, I just reached in and took a look at his other card! F him. No one said a thing. I believe the worst offender knows that he is keeping a small edge for himself by not showing both cards when he is suppose to show in order to claim the pot. They don't get away w/that at my house.

I guess I'm a little confused. Being new that shouldn't surprise anyone. If everyone folds to you someone can ask to see your hand? I don't have a prob with the show one show all rule. I thought if they wanted to see your cards they could "pay".
Accident, so when there's a show down they play some goofy game of "can you beat this?"? I'd think that would get annoying. Having a slight distrust of people who are trying to get my money I'd kinda want to see both cards if I called to a showdown.

Hey Russ-
If no one calls your bet, then they do not have the right to ask to see your hand. Most players generally muck their hands face down in this situation, but some choose to show. I flashed my top pair card twice last night at the table so a couple players wouldn't think I was getting out of line w/middle or bottom pair.

Welcome to the forums,
Brian

In holdem, if no one calls you, show one, two or everyone's favorite, none. If someone calls... turn both over. It's polite to do it at the same time so no one has to say, "show both, dummy."

Yeah, somebody was trying to show one on Saturday. I wasn't having any of that and put a stop to that right away.

Yep, it's the perfect picture for me since I'm a tall, skinny chemist with (artificially) red hair!
