Default I see a lot of talk ... does anyone make any money?

I see a lot of analysis of games on here. But then it all gets blown to [censored] when the game rolls around.

This, coupled with the idea that you can't win money betting on sports, makes me think you can't make money betting on sports. (And yes, I realize what I just wrote.)

I'm not asking for figures at all (that's private, but share if you like), but does anyone consistently win money betting on sports, or is it just fun/a thrill, and you're happy losing the money for the fun. Or do you just plain, get crushed?

Just asking because I have no idea.

Thanks.

I'm down a little this year (about 7 units) for NCAA and NFL bets this season. I might actually be up, if you include January Shoe-In playoff picks and Superbowl- i'd have to check.
I'm not a serious capper- I don't spread a lot of money, nor bet a lot of sports, ala scalf or some of these other posters.

No one makes money over an extended period of time on sports betting except the books. That is a lock.

There are not many, but there are some people who can make a profit betting on sports. In theory, everyone would lose because you would win half your games, and lose half your games (when going against the spread, assuming the spread is correct), and you would be down the vig that the books charge. The winners are the ones who can spot where the spread is off and they bet and win a high enough percentage of their bets to become overall winners. Also, winning betters don't bet on every single game, they bet on few games, but win most of them.

I am on my way to my third straight winning season (I only bet on the NFL), but I agree that I need more time for the "long run" to sink in.

I tripled my bankroll on MBL this year, never betting over a single unit (2-4% of my roll, adjusted monthly) and grinding it out at 4-5 games a day (on average), everyday of the season. I rarely bet Baskets, and I haven't had a down year in Baseball or Football since I really started to bet... Several years now. I never bet the NHL.

doubt me?
My Plays of the Week are 8-2-1 this year.
Big Al (posts here) looks like a long-term winner to me too.
Trust me. It can be done. Pro Handicappers aren't just mythes.... I'm no Pro...

Yes, sports can be beaten long term. It used to be a lot easier to do than it is now... lines were softer back when. But it is definitely still possible.

Having said that, I could probably count the number of posters on this forum capable of doing it on one hand (and that doesn't include me.. at least not yet.. ).

One of my 'golden rules' (Along with not betting significant parts of one's bankroll on college athletics)

In response to the original poster - people do make money - I make money, I'm far from a pro, but NOT far from a degenerate gambler. I'm up about 4,000 for the year thanks to a good MLB season, and no thanks to week 7 in the NFL (-3,400!). I've been betting sports 'part-time'(?) for close to 8 years, never really kept track of wins, losses, my own trends - just money per sport - Just do research, gather as many same-season trends as possible, and try to sniff out the oddsmakers mistakes. Usually place between 2 and 5 totals/sides bets each night (NBA/MLB), and 1-4 first quarter bets each night during NBA season. Football usually 2-5 sides/totals per week. I've had weeks where I've lost thousands, weeks where I've won thousands, and continue to refine the process by which I pick games, while continuing to refrain from betting too many games/betting games because they're on tv/betting games that start in the next 10 minutes/betting games because it's the only game going that night, etc.

It's a nice supplemental income, except for weeks when I'm down 2-3k, then it's a week's worth of Ramen noodles, figuratively speaking, for me and the better half.

funny azzhole

let me explain-
tripled means my roll x3... not too hard to do with all my action and a good season
4-5 on average means somedays none, somedays 8 or 10 bets with sides, half game, over/unders & props... again not too hard to do

doubt all you want. why would I lie?
I don't care what people on the internet think of me, but I want others to know that it is possible. It just takes dedication and a good mind.

You know what amazes me about this forum?

Out of all the professional gamblers in the world, and I suspect that to be less than 1% of all gamblers worldwide....we at 2+2 seem to have the majority here as chartered members.

All the sportsbooks, casinos, race tracks and wise guys have refused taking action from me because I told them im a 2+2 member. That means I NEVER lose at anything.

What a joke.

Try to be honest fool and quit embarrasing yourself.
