Common Problem Here Out of Position on Flop - What\'s the Correct Line?
let's say I'm playing in a 5-handed 5/10 NL game.....
my image is very aggressive and tricky....I have $1000 and cover everyone.... say it's folded to me in CO and I make it $30 with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] only caller is the button (short with $400)....he is a tight player but is also aware that I am capable of aggressively betting with nothing....his post-flop play is generally very straightforward.... flop comes 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] what's the correct line here?.... here's the problem as I see it: say I lead out, villain's gonna fold any non-pair hand....if I lead out and he raises me, he could be doing it with any pair (including 44-77 or an 8 with a lower kicker) thinking that I'm auto-betting with no pair purely because I was the pre-flop raiser......what if I check and he bets?....then in either case, what's my plan for the turn?.....really it's the flop and turn I'm curious about because I think against this opponent the river would go check-check anyway.....so what's the best course of action for the flop and turn in this situation against this opponent?.....bet flop and check turn?....check/call flop and turn?......bet flop and fold to a raise?.....check flop bet turn?..... your thoughts?..... |

Re: Common Problem Here Out of Position on Flop - What\'s the Correct L
ive recently experimented with being the LAG at the table but not at these stakes. for what its worth, i would bet out. if hes tight and shortstacked i would think he would wait for a big hand like a set or overpair to start raising. so therefore id fold to a raise on the flop, even though its gonna kill my image.
if you check and he bets, perhaps go for a check raise and fold to a subsequent push. i present these options because i dont want to get to the turn. any broadway will complicate things. perhaps think about showing your hand if you take it down on the flop. |

Re: Common Problem Here Out of Position on Flop - What\'s the Correct L
Don't steal-raise with hands that aren't simple to get away from? Eh. I'm not a shorthanded specialist.
As for this specific hand: you can't check the 8-high flop unless you are certain he will bet, since any T or face card might force you to slow down/win the hand for opponent. I bet out here, and assume he would've reraised preflop with TT or better, so all I'm really worried about is 99 [also probably a reraising hand] or a set.) If I bet, and he min-raises, I'm going to call, then bet again on the turn, and if he raises that, then I'm done. |

Re: Common Problem Here Out of Position on Flop - What\'s the Correct Line?
This is why A8 is one of my favorite hands to play out of position. I would bet and fold to a raise. I don't know what range of hands this player will call your raises with, but most of the time if you're raised on this flop by a tight, straightforward player, you're looking at 99-JJ (sets will often "just" call). Sure sometimes he might have 77, but who cares. He's got the magic potion this hand, give it up, and move on. If he calls I would check the turn, and measure him up then.
