All-in with AKs pre-flop. Good play?
This is the first hand I post and I have yet to learn how to use the HH-converter.
Empire NL $25 Seat 1: m7nova3 ( $35.35) Seat 2: drm_thomas ( $19.6) Seat 3: mwg59 ( $49.2) Seat 4: aron80 ( $24.5) Seat 5: adamfurlong ( $31.4) Seat 6: pikolow ( $30.75) Seat 7: DakotaKid8 ( $31.55) Seat 8: ferlo ( $50.35) Seat 9: toadmeister ( $25) Seat 10: Kurt7416 ( $40.25) aron80 posts small blind (0.25) adamfurlong posts big blind (0.5) ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to toadmeister [ Ks, As ] pikolow calls (0.5) DakotaKid8 folds. ferlo folds. toadmeister calls (0.5) Kurt7416 folds. drm_thomas calls (0.5) mwg59 raises (2) to 2 aron80 folds. adamfurlong calls (1.5) pikolow calls (1.5) toadmeister raises (24.5) to 25 My thinking in this hand was that I probably wasn't up against AA or KK so I would either win a decent amount of blind money or get called by a lower pair or a weaker ace and thus be either a slight favourite or a big one. Is this reasoning correct? |

You can make more money by taking a flop w/ this hand. Reraising is ok, but pushing in is not the correct play.

Pushing all in with AKo is not the correct call here. I would take a look at the flop first.

Fluffington
For the most part I don't like it.
The problem is, 1) a worse Ace will fold 2) AA or KK will call. Either, [ QUOTE ] toadmeister calls (0.5) [/ QUOTE ] Raise here. . . or, [ QUOTE ] toadmeister raises (24.5) to 25 [/ QUOTE ] Just call here. This play can be profitable however for potential meta game reasons. . However, not many people pay attention at these stakes for it to even matter. Essentially once you initially limp in you are playing it as the drawing hand that it is. .you want people with hands you have dominated to limp in, like weaker aces and flush draws. |

AK suited is not a correct call either. I don't know why I said AKo.

Re: All-in with AKs pre-flop. Good play?
I have not played much at Empire, but at Party, I have made a few thousand over the years at 50$ NL with that exact play. You would be surprised how fast some of those clowns will call fifty with Ace Ten, King Queen and the like.
Mix it up, but no harm in throwing it in with slick, especially in late pre flop position. |

I almost never limp w/ AK. The only reason i would is to have aggressive players raise worse hands (especially dominated ones) and use their aggression to my advantage. AKs is not a drawing hand, it is an ev machine! |
