Default is poker fading?

Has anyone seen poker fading in the public eye? Is it still as widely watched and are the poker rooms still as full? My home game has gone down the drain and i have not heard so many people talking about it as i have been. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Also, poker which has become "hot" around the nation could also for many people be considered a fad. Is the fad (for those not as serious, playing because it is a fad)fading? I guess these two questions are similar but i am not sure whether it is even fair to call poker a fad for these players. I guess if they stop soon it will be considered a fad. Clarity is good and it eludes me.

It is fading. Tonight at my 5/10 short-handed table a guy (sitting with $3k) was bitching constantly about being rivered. When I finally when got a chance to take a pot from him, he quit, sayin he's never playing at PartyPoker again. The avalanche has started...

I think it'll take a little more time for poker to fade. I don't see it sustaining the kind of momentum it has built up for very long though. I'd be curious to see the numbers at the WSOP next year. Both the WSOP circuit and WPT have lucrative TV contracts for years into the future. Let's see what happens.

When you have played on-line for a while, the home games get less interesting because of the lack of speed.

the Poker Boom is far from over, I know as I introduce the game to people new to poker all the time, and it is amazing to see how they get the 'Fever'. (In the morning, Fever all through the night... FEVER!)

That's an interesting comment. I disagree. I play online, home games and casinos. I really like the home games for something different. To me they're a little more relaxing, and a lot of fun. C'mon you don't miss the dirty jokes, drinking, whining about significant others, etc. of the home game when you play online?

I had an aquaintence from high school instant message me out of the blue last night because he heard I played poker, he wanted a book recommendation.

I don't know if that means anything though.

Recommend him Helmuth's book, then find out his online handle and play against him.

I don't think poker is 'fading' per say, I just think its plateau-ing off a bit from its sudden rocketing rise in popularity.

It would be nice to see some *NEW* episodes of the WPT sometime soon, as all they are showing are re-runs. They can get old pretty quickly to those who aren't really hardcore enthusiasts. Myself on the other hand, I still watch them to try to learn something each time. But I'm sure other casual fans can't say the same.

No one really wants to talk about re-runs, so it seems that popularity is falling. Hopefully with the new Professional Poker Tour and the new WSOP circuit, there will be more NEW events to be aired on a consistent basis.

Also, watch out for that new gaming channel, EdgeTV.

When I first started at pokerstars earlier this year, I checked Phil's book out of the library. After getting hammered on a pot while playing one Phil's "Top 10" hands, I typed into the chat line,

"Damn you Phil Helmuth!"

My competition gave me the "LOL", then "Yeah, I read that one too."

It was only later that I discovered he was laughing at me, not with me.
