Default Help!!! Home tourney suggestions........

We are currently in the process of putting a "home" tourney together. Need suggestions as far as starting chip counts, etc..... Here are the particulars we have settled on so far. We want the tourney to last approximately 4 hours.

Game-NL Holdem
Rebuys-unlimited first hour w/addon at break
Buy-in $55
Rounds-20 minutes
Addon-double chips of buyin
Players-25/30

We were thinking of 1000 starting chips and rebuy when under 1000 gets you 1000. Addon gets you 2000. Start blinds at 25/50. What blind increases do we need to finish in approximately 4 hours. Probably no antes.

I was thinking......
25/50,50/100,100/200,break
150/300,200/400,400/800,break
600/1200,1000/2000,2000/4000,break
4000/8000 until end.

workable?

I run a $20 buy-in home game with starting chips at 2000. If below 2000 chips you can rebuy $1 per 100 chips. No rebuying past 2K chips and no add-ons. Rebuys end about 2 hours into the event. Typically lasts 4-5 hours with anywhere from 8-16 players. Levels are 20 minutes each.

LEVEL SMALL BLIND BIG BLIND

1 5 10
2 10 20
3 20 40

BREAK COLOR IN $5 CHIPS

4 25 50
5 50 100
6 75 150

BREAK FINAL REBUY PERIOD

7 (25 ante) 100 200
8 (50 ante) 200 400

BREAK COLOR IN $25 CHIPS

9 (100 ante) 300 600
10 (200 ante) 500 1000
11 (300 ante) 600 1200
12 (400 ante) 800 1600
13 (500 ante) 1000 2000

Hope this helps and good luck!

Check out: homepokertourney if you haven't already.

Also the donationware: Tournament Director

With the number of fishes you have, breaks & rebuys/addons you should be close. I think typically the tourney can be expected to end at or shortly after the BB = starting chips... e.g. with your example tourney time (2-2.5 hours) + breaks (30 min) + rebuys/add-ons (add 30 min) + workin' out the bugs (30 min) for a total of approx. 3.5-4 hours.

Initial blind increases seem a little steep IMHO.

My 2¢,
Fins

You can probably get away with starting at 5/10 or 10/20 blinds and increase at a much slower rate. I think that at the current rate you will find there will be a lot of uncomfortable people in the game very quickly, due to being very short stacked after one loss. As long as you keep the cutoff or rebuys around an hour maybe an hour and a half, and consistantly raise your blinds you should be in good shape to finish around 4 hours.

Just for reference this is what I use in a solid game and we finish around 4 hours (about 10 people). Starting with 500 chips, raise blinds every half hour.

0:00 5/10
0:30 10/20
1:00 15/30
1:30 20/40
2:00 25/50
2:30 50/100
3:00 75/150
3:30 100/200
4:00 200/400

Addon-double chips of buyin

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't do this unless the addon costs twice as much. There is nothing worse than punishing those who have successfully built their stacks at the beginning of a tourney by effectively decreasing the value of these chips. Make the addon the same amount of chips.. This isn't a casino where a huge chunk of the initial buyin is going to the house.

This is the structure that we use in our home tourney, but we increase the blinds every 20 minutes and we have ended right around 3-3.5 hrs. every time...
