my guess.... when Empire realized the problem they probably decided they couldn't kill everyone's bonus (ie. legitimate users who may have claimed their bonus in the days prior) and decided to make Sep 28 the cutoff date, which makes sense since this didn't blow up until early AM (ET) on the 28th. Being one of the first to jump on this I got in on while it was still the 27th...
seems the most reasonable explanation to me, but who knows...
