Poker Laptop - Would this be a good one?
I’m slightly computer inept.
I’d like to get myself set up with an inexpensive (and when I say inexpensive, I guess I mean cheap between $500 and $750 if possible) laptop to use as a wireless laptop for internet poker. Internet Poker would pretty much be its sole use. I stumbled across this laptop: IBM ThinkPad T22 2647 - PIII 900 MHz - 14.1" TFT Specs - COST = $620 • Processor: Pentium III (900 MHz) • RAM: 128 MB • Hard Drive: 20 GB • Weight: 5.3 lbs • Display: 14.1 in • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 • Features: 5.3 lbs, Intel Pentium III 900 MHz , 20 GB IDE Portable Internal S.M.A.R.T. , 14.1 in TFT active matrix Integrated , 1 Lithium ion , Microsoft Windows 2000 (Preinstalled) --- I haven’t been able to find anything regarding it being able to hand wireless internet. I’m assuming (again computer inept) that this would require a wireless network card. – Does anyone know anything about this computer, and its wireless capabilities. Is there a better option out there? Sarge[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] |

Re: Poker Laptop - Would this be a good one?
I think the most important thing for getting a laptop for poker use is the screen. For multi-tabling, I reccomend a UXGA monitor (capable of going 1600x1200) or higher.
For the system itself, the harddrive means squat. The processor doesnt matter. If you had 64-128 MB ram you would be fine... Hope that helps! |

Re: Poker Laptop - Would this be a good one?
I would not recommend this Sarge. 128MB RAM is a dog, 256MB is the absolute rock bottom. 20 gig hard drive is small but OK if all you want to do is play poker. The 14.1" screen is tiny, 15" is standard. Just a quick search at Circuit City found this. I'm sure that you can better, it's just an example.

Re: Poker Laptop - Would this be a good one?
You will not likely be able to get what many here would consider a "good" LCD panel or monitor with the laptop in the price range you are looking at. The only issue however is that if you multi table, the tables will overlap. I play almost every day, 2 tables, on a similar laptop and although it is inconvenient, it works.
For wireless, you will need to add a wireless PCMCIA card to the laptop. |

We just bought a new Dell laptop for our son for under $700. From what little I know of computers, it exeeds the one your considering by quite a bit. The deal is good til 11/13 and can be found here,
www.dell.com/1150-oct as is its $629 after the rebate Pack |

Actually, this is probably the best laptop deal right now (Dell deal; good til 10/14) (although probably a little more expensive than what you posted):

Pack -
I can't get your link to work. Could you try it again, or let me know the Dell model your talking about. I've seen a couple people talk about multi-tabling, I don't see this being a huge issue. Generally I play 2 screens at most anyway. I suppose in the long run, I should fork out the extra bucks and not wish later down the road I had. Well, if you could find a 1 gig you wouldn't even be able to install Windows XP . Lost Wages |

Re: Poker Laptop - Would this be a good one?
The T22 does not have built-in wireless, you will need to buy a wireless card for it. Also the maximum resolution on it is 1024x768, so if you for example multi-table at Party there will be a lot of overlap with even just two windows, and forget about trying to get two tables plus a PT gametime window up at the same time, it won't happen without a lot of switching.
If you're looking for cheap and poker only, go to Dell, get the lamest laptop they have, minus all options, but max out the display, 15" UXGA, whatever they offer so you can get the highest resolution. Add wireless if needed. |
