Default pocket pairs

Is it every correct to fold small and medium pocket pairs preflop? 22-99?
I usually play them but I hate calling on a raised pot? HOw do you guys handle these situations? Last hand I had 44 and it was raised and reraised by the time it got to me... I decided not to 3-bet and what comes down on the flop?
another 4... Wouldve won a nice pot...

uhm, why would you cap with 44? Turbo muck.

small PP are fine to play from anywhere in a loose passive game. You want to try and get into the pot for 1 bet. If the table is not loose passive you have 2 options 1 - find another table 2- fold the low PP's

I would throw it away even for 1 raise. At best your a coinflip at this point (at worst drawing to 2 outs that you may loose even if you hit) and with 2 opponents your significantly worse off than that.

I think you should get a book that discusses hand selection. It's a little time consuming to get into all the nuances here. The more you play the better you get at it. Eventually you don't even think about it -- it becomes pretty intuitive.
