Default Poker Software for B&M players

I'm looking for a decent spreadsheet/database program that I can use to record all my sessions: dates, times, limits, buy-ins and buy-outs, tournament expenses and wins, etc.

I'm looking for something to base my tax records on, since I'm currently using a pad and pen, but also something that can be manipulated and show me what games/limits are my weakest, times of the day I play that appear to be more profitable, etc.

Does anyone know of any software on the market that applies? Every search I do here only comes up with PokerTracker (a database for online players).

Try going to http://www.pokerportal.co.uk/ They have a section called poker spreadsheets (along with many other links to poker related sites). You can download spreadsheets for free. I used excel to created my own data base for B&M play. If you are decent wityh excel, I would create your own.

Good luck

Personally I use SQL Server with a crappy UI I did in .net. I only use the UI for data entry I use query analyzer for pulling data back out. This isn't really the best approach if you aren't at least a casual programmer.

If any of the above actually makes sense to you and you would like the database schema and my report queries let me know and I could send them to you. If however on the other hand the preceding paragraph appears to be written in greek (actually it's geek) just disregard this whole post.

If you have Excel and know how to use it, it's good enough for what you want...

MS Works comes with a spreadsheet that would be good enough also.

If needed snag a discounted Excel book and you are all set....

I use excel...

free office software (IMO just as good as MS) at:
www.openoffice.org

I looked at the spreadsheets on pokerportal mentioned above, and they seem like mine, but harder to read

Good point, there are probably freeware spreadsheets and/or databases out there too.

www.nonags.com

and

http://www.pricelessware.org/thelist/index.htm

are good places to start.

correction. those are much more involved than what I was using. I'm going to incorporate some of the spreadsheet functions.

I have been using excel for over 10 years, so I suppose I am a bit biased.

If just getting into spreadsheets, lots of beginner books that should cover EVERYTHING needed for a nice POKER sheet are out there.

All I use pretty much is SUM function:

SUM function examples:

=SUM(D5365) adds all the contents of cells D5 through D365, only D column cells...
=SUM(F5/G5) obvious

You get the idea, very easy...

A spreadsheet with pivot tables is what you want. Pivot tables will make it much easier to extract the data you mentioned, by focusing on certain limits, certain casinos, certain games, etc.

Excel 2k3 has pivot tables, but it's expensive. I don't know if the open source clones have this feature yet. Of course, you could just start your spreadsheet in a open source product, they'll probably have this feature pretty soon as it's very popular.

In my excel sheet, I input the following data:

Time in
Time out
City
Casino
Game (HE, O8, etc)
Limit
Buy In
Cash Out
Bankroll deposits or withdrawls

I then have formulas that calculate the following:
Session length
Net result
BBs +/-
$/Hour
BB/Hour

It also keeps running totals for hours logged, $ won, and rate in BB/hour and $/hour, as well as my total bankroll. I haven't actually used any pivot tables yet.
