Default 1st Ever Canadian Poker Tour Event - Do you make this call?

Hello All,

Yes, poker is so popular there is now a Canadian Poker Tour (insert laugh track here)

Anyhow, the first event started tonight in my hometown of Edmonton so I decided to play.

I know some other 2+2 ers were talking about playing in it, I'm curious if any did?

$500 + $45 , 282 runners, top 30 pay.

When it gets down to 30 they stop the tourney and everyone comes back Sunday.

31 players left

Blinds 5000/10,000 ante 500
8 handed

I post the BB and have ~31,000 left after posting

Folded to MP who goes all in for 18,700, folded to me.

It my third hand at this table, and I hadn't played with the guy at all, and he gives me the "stare down".

I look down to find QTo.

Its 8700 to call a pot of 37,700

I am in no danger of going out, but will be really short if I miss.

If I hit, my stack is much healthier and we stop playing.

I had checked out the other 3 tables and there are 6 other stacks with ~15,000 left.

I thought it was a no brainer and call.

The railbirds didn't like it, and my fellow competitors gave me a few "tough call" comments.

I didn't think it was so bad, or so tough.

Comments?

I lost the hand,(to 89o rivering a straight no less!) but shortly after someone had their AA cracked and I'm in the $$$ and going back tommorow with an ultra short stack.

I'll post something if I make the final table, but that is a long uphill climb.

I am interested to see if you all think the call was as easy as I thought.

I didn't make a read on the guy, I called purely out of pot odds, and that fact that it wouldn't bust me.

Regards,
Woodguy

you played a lot of poker today, so your brain might be a little addled. you are getting like 4.5 to 1 against a tiny stack push. super easy call. good luck with the micro stack.

Yup, can't argue with those odds, good call. I wouldn't have liked it, but I likely would have grudgingly put the chips in. Tough result.

Good luck tomorrow! I'd have loved to have played, but I don't currently have a live bankroll, so it'll have to wait until next year.

Thanks guys.

2nd guessed myself a little when I got so much flack for calling, but I was pretty sure I was correct.

Even though I'm just limping into the $$$, this tourney has reaffirmed my belief that the % of dead money in a tourney is higher in a b&m than online (if you examine similar stakes)

Woodguy

I still haven't played live...but if I did, I think I would call this without looking at my cards and I would make sure the other short stacks knew I didn't look so they wouldn't try to steal from me in the future without a real hand.

And then I'd look at my cards the next time it happened.

Good luck today,
Che

Good job knowing about the other short stacks.
Good job getting into the money.
And finally, good call.

I would rather shoot myself in the face than fold that.

Railbirds are morons (even if they are canadian ).
