did I make the right move?
Late stages of a multi-table tourney. Blinds are at 200/400 I have a chip stack of about 7000, I have been playing pretty tight, but haven't caught many cards lately so I limped in with with A-10. About 5 people see the flop with me. Flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]-9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]-7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I figure I have top pair, and I haven't played many hands, the pot is already pretty big because of the blinds so I'll bet 1500 and try to take it right there. Guy right after who has a chip stack of about 24000 calls right away. I immediately put him on a lone spade hoping to catch the flush. Everyone else folds so it's just him and me. Turn brings a 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. So I figure I'll push, hoping that he'll fold, but if doesn't praying that a spade doesn't come on the river. I push he thinks for a good long while and calls. River brings 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] of spades, and he had K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and a rag. Did I make the right move, should I have bet the turn hard, and waited to see what the river brought?

Re: did I make the right move?
You are in the wrong forum. You should be posting in Multi-table Tournaments. Also, tournaments tend to have a lot more important factors that you are omitting -- numbers left, numbers place, your position, opponent tendencies, buy in ...

Re: did I make the right move?
This is basically a bad beat story. You overbet the pot and got called by someone with a 20% chance of winning.
Though I do hate the limp with AT and I think "immediately putting him on a lone spade" will get you into trouble in the future. |

Re: did I make the right move?
Don't limp preflop in that situation.

Re: did I make the right move?
in the words of walt z., if you're about to go all in, it helps to put your opponent on a hand you can beat.
turns out here it was right decision, wrong outcome for that situation. at the same time, i would've played every street differently. most important was preflop. you had plenty of time. best to avoid bad aces every time in that situation. matt |

Re: did I make the right move?
Could you guys elaborate on what you mean, I thought I play the ok, but if you guys would have done it differently, I greatly appreciate more info, so I can see where you are coming from. I would like to improve, and would greatly appreciate more information.
Sorry about posting it in the wrong forum! |

Re: did I make the right move?
For your stack and those blinds, raise or fold preflop. Which to choose depends on the actual situation. This applies in general when you have less than 20X BB.
