... trying to get a nut.
Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed) Preflop: Hero is BB with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 6 folds, Button calls, 1 fold, Hero checks. Final Pot: 14.16 BB Results in white below: Hero has Td 9d (straight, ten high). Button has Ks 9h (straight, nine high). Outcome: Hero wins 14.16 BB. Think I missed two bets on the turn? My thought is that if I 3-bet the turn, a lone-9 like this calls the 3-bet and calls a bet on the river. I think flat-calling on the turn made him confident that his straight was good, so instead of going 3 bets - 1 bet, we went 2 bets - 4 bets. But who knows, maybe he would have capped the turn and river. Comments on my turn play? (Or any other street, for that matter...) |

But who knows, maybe he would have capped the turn and river. [/ QUOTE ] you'll never know if you don't 3-bet the turn... I 3-bet hoping he overplays his 9, or calls down with something like 2-pair. |

Get in your money when you turn the nuts. You're going to be very sad when a paired or flush board kills your action.

In addition to what the others have said, there's a (small) chance he's semi-bluffing the turn with some club overcards, in which case you won't get any action on the river when the clubs miss. I 3-bet here for that reason, among others.

I raise preflop--every player except the button has folded, and the button has merely called (he could have a very weak hand). I 3-bet the turn, for reasons that others already have suggested. He could have an 8 or clubs or who knows what and easily check behind on the river--then you only get two bets total. I also bet the river after 3-betting the turn.

[/ QUOTE ] He probably does but... o T9s is behind any pocket pair or face card heads-up. o If he's enough of an idiot to open limp from the button, pushing him off his hand might be a lost cause. o He *might* be cute and be trapping you o He *might* 3-bet you just-because. I like the pre-flop check. Make a hand (cheap) and show it to him. Otherwise, it's a cheap fold. |
