The site that Cheney referred people to for assessing Halliburton's dealings, factcheck.com, is a George Soros site.

It's headline: "Why we must not re-elect President Bush"

Subhead: "President Bush is endangering our safety, hurting our vital interests, and undermining American values."

Also, here is part of the introductory speech Cheney gave at the function from which the picture in the original post was drawn.

"Thank you. Thank you very much. Congressman Watts, Senator Edwards, friends from across America and distinguished visitors to our country from all over the world, Lynne and I honored to be with you all this morning." [FDCH Political Transcripts, Cheney Remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, 2/1/01]

I guess Edwards didn't make much of an impression on Cheney during that meeting.

Cheney made a big point of saying that he had never met Edwards before tonight even though as VP he is president of the senate.

It was a big bunch of non-sense, as in addition to this function Cheney has surely been around Edwards many times before. But it was probably effective in portraying Edwards as inexperienced and prone to shirking his senate duties.

Thanks, sam h. I didn't catch that during the debate. At this point the white russians have me in their warm, comforting grasp, so I'll wait until tomorrow to consider the implications....

This cracks me up:
(from Yahoo)

"Cheney meant to cite FactCheck.org on another occasion during the debate but he got it wrong, and unintentionally steered Web surfers to a site run by the anti-Bush activist billionaire, George Soros. Cheney said "factcheck.com," when he should have used "org." "

How many votes do you think this cost them? 20 million viewers. Maybe 500,000 checked the site out. 50,000 undecided. Normally they'd get 20,000 of these, instead the get say 15,000. So five thousand vote blooper maybe. I hope they all were watching from Ohio.

From the debate:

[ QUOTE ]
Cheney: You've got one of the worst attendance records in the United States Senate. Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session.

The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight.

[/ QUOTE ]

From Cheney's favorite web site factcheck.org

[ QUOTE ]
Cheney claimed Edwards has such a poor attendance record in the Senate that he was just meeting Edwards for the first time during the debate, even though Cheney visits the Senate every Tuesday. But the Kerry-Edwards campaign quickly documented at least two instances in which Cheney had met Edwards previously. Edwards escorted Elizabeth Dole when she was sworn in as North Carolina's other senator on January 8, 2003, according to Gannet News Service. Cheney administered the oath.

Cheney also was present with Edwards at a National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 1, 2001, when a transcript shows Cheney acknowledged Edwards among those at the gathering:

Cheney: (Feb. 1, 2001): Thank you. Thank you very much. Congressman Watts, Senator Edwards, friends from across America and distinguished visitors to our country from all over the world, Lynne and I are honored to be with you all this morning.
