Default Semi-stupid question #1 - open raising standards

Hi guys,

Here is a chart I made up regarding open raising standards. I realize this sort of (strict) thinking isn't ideal for SH play because correct play can vary dramatically based on specific reads but I'm looking for a crutch to help get me started towards SH greatness (gotta walk before you can run, etc).

The hand listed is the lowest hand in each catagory to open with, column headings are # of seats OTB (3 = UTG, 1 = CO, etc).

I'd appreciate feedback on anything that seems out of place (this is probably a little too tight?).

Thanks,
J

That looks pretty close to how I play although I think I open more from the button.

I've been fooling around with Abdul's starters recently with mixed results.

I think you are right in your guess that it is too tight.

I don't feel comfortable raising with QT one off the button, or on the button with Q9 or Q9s, or J9s or a pair of 4's on the button unless I'm just on a steal.

Am I just way too tight on this? Except for steal value, if these hands get multiple callers, they do not seem like they'd do well. They don't even seem very good heads up.

Is their steal equity enough to push them over the edge to being worthwhile hands?

For full games I'd point you in the direction of either SSHE (low limits) or HPFAP (mid-limits) depending on which limit you'll be playing. Also, please note that my chart above is probably somewhat/very debatable (as I mentioned, I'm new to SH play).

By playing more suited connectors for steal value I assume? Should I loosen up with one/two gappers as well? Unsuited?

I'm starting at 1/2 so I'm not sure if steal value at that level will be as important as being able to have a strong hand against (typically) loose blinds. I understand that as I move higher stealing becomes significantly more important (at least...I think I do ).

Thanks,
J

I'd be interested what others have to say about this...am I overvaluing my unsuited cards?

Thanks,

I don't have SSHE or HPFAP yet. Are these charts on the web somewhere?

I really suggest you take your $20 and go buy one of those books. It will be more than worth it.
