How does pokerstars 5c/10c compare to party games?
I am looking to make the jump soon and wondering whether I should just move up to 25c/50c at stars or make a leap to partypoker. My background includes a few months at pacific 5c/10c--> 50c/$1(jumping up at 300BB for next limit) where i hit a 100BB downswing and went to stars. I have read WLLH, MLH, SSH and HEPFAP and think I should be good enough but am not 100% sure. I am thinking stars 5c/10c cant be much worse than party 50c/$1 but someone should know. Thanks |

I had been playing stars 25/50 cent table for last couple months and making money. didn't want to change because I like the graphics much better at stars in comparison to party but went to party the last week after all the posts saying easier to make money at party. they were right. party 50/1.00 table much easier than any stars tables. found many players who will pay you off to the end after they only flopped bottom pair and didn't improve on the turn or river. love it!!!

Worse how?
I have played on UB, Pacfic, Paradise, Stars, Party, and Prima at the ~0.50/$1 level and from my experiance Stars has the toughest games at that level. If you can handle that limit and understand the books like WLLH and SSH you can handle the .50/$1 game on Party. It is a litte fishy and you will go through some swings but you seem smart enough to come with a good bankroll so I think you should do well. Good Luck |

Why not read a book, play a bunch to put the knowledge into practice and better understand it, then move onto the next book? Personally, I read a book, practice, re-read it, and then practice before moving onto another. Otherwise, how do you know that you're improving or that the advice contained therein is sound? Poker study isn't like a pie eating contest. |

I moved from Paradise 10¢/20¢ to Empire 50¢/$1 to try and take advantage of that 100% match bonus. Well, we all know how that turned out, but good lord the games are amazing. If you have the money to invest in it, I don't see how anyone who tries to work on their game and listens to the advice here can be a losing player. These players make some of the other micro-sites' players look like geniuses.

Agreed. But paradise $0.5/$1 is definitely beatable for serious BB, too. There also seem to be more $1/$2 full ring games at paradise instead of all the 6-max at party.

I started by played 10k hands at .05/.10 at Stars and was winning ~8bb/hr. My plan was to move to .25/.50 at Stars but I got sidetracked chasing down bonuses at Party/Empire.
4k hands now at .5/1 in the Party world and while my winrate went down considerably (just a shade under 2bb/hr) the game isnt any harder. I did start off with a 60 BB downswing at Party (couldnt believe the crap I was losing too either), so bankroll is a must. |

You know you are improving when you know why you do things and start thinking much more when you play.
I also failed to mentioned that I studied a lot of online material and played freemoney games for a few weeks so I had at least a decent beginners background before I played at pacific. I prefer to read, play a bit, then analyze if I felt I played poorly (1-2 bad plays is enough). I don't feel the need to play 10k hands after reading a book and become a clone or learn everything in the book, before picking up another(most of the material is repeated in other books anyway). If I can pickup a couple of bits of info that I previously didn't know then thats great, maybe when I reread them, I will pick something else up. |
