lets say i have something like ace king, and the flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. i am up against one opponent, and i read him to have the flush draw, but at the moment i think i have the best hand, but i don't have a heart in my hand. how much should i bet in this situation to make it to expensive for him to draw at the flush. also, does the same apply for a straight draw? thanks for the help

Well, let's do the math. A flush draw is a 1.8-1 dog to hit. So you need to make his pot odds worse than this. The same applies for straight draws, which have slightly worse odds, I think 2.1-1.

Unless the bet will put one of you allin, don't you have to use 4:1?

I would bet the pot. This gives him 2:1 odds on a 4:1 draw. If the flush does not come on the turn, bet the pot again. If you think your opponent will call more, then by all means, bet the maximum amount he will call.

I'd bet at least the pot.
