Re: Stranded in VA
I am in DC and have been looking for something since I moved out here in April with no luck. The best game you will find will be on the internet.

Re: Stranded in VA
Same boat here...mostly play online. But Atlantic City is a just a car (2.5 hrs), train (3.5 hrs) or bus (4.5 hrs) ride away and the games are good. I try to get down there once a month or so.

Re: Stranded in VA
Amtrak. Go to Union Station in Washington. Amtrak to Phila, switch to NJ Transit train to AC. Whole thing takes like 3.5 or so hours. 50 each way. Beats the hell out of driving in my opinion. Also trains leave from Phila to DC very often. PM me with questions.

Re: Stranded in VA
VA sucks, although I guess for a non poker vacation Smith Mountain Lake was pretty cool. I was very disapointed though that I didn't see any tobacco fields while driving thru the state, isn't tobacco everywhere in VA? Guess not.

Re: Stranded in VA
The best I've ever done from AC to DC (Adams Morgan neighborhood in NW) was 3.5 hours -- it was about 2 a.m. when we came back, and I took Rt. 40. This includes a brief stop at Wawa along the way.
When empty, I believe that Rt. 40 is significantly quicker than the AC Expressway. Once you get off onto 40, it's about 60 miles from there. The speed limit is 50 mph in most places, and you can push it to 70 when there are no traffic lights or homeless people wandering on the side of the road. To get on the AC Expressway, however, you have to go way north (maybe 15 miles past Rt. 40?) and then the expressway takes you southeast. If it's not between 1 and 6 a.m., though, you should take the expressway. Get stuck behind a slow truck (or a slow Grandma) on 40, and those 60 miles can take two hours, easy. My route is usually: 16th St. N L on Georgia Ave. 495 towards College Park 95 N 295 N 40 E -or- AC Expressway (Highway 42) Coming back, it's tricky to pick up 295 S from the expressway. A lot of times, we end up just continuing on to the 76 bridge into Philly, and picking up 95 S, which is only a few miles out of the way. And for what it's worth, Tobacco Road is in North Carolina. |
