Ok, last night I decided to make the move from 3-6 to 15-30 at Party. Yes I know one should go through the 5-10 games first but since I'm from Europe and normally play when it's daytime in US, gameselection becomes an issue at 5-10 aswell as 10-20. So I decided to go directly to the 15-30 games taking a 300BB shot 4-tabling. My bankroll is at 21K so I figured I'm not in danger of losing it all aswell as at least getting a serious try at 15-30. If it doesn't work out, no harm done and I can move back 4-tabling the 3-6 games. Some of you have said the swings at 15-30 can be brutal but I wasn't expecting it to be THIS brutal. Are numbers like mine below to be expected every session I play?. If it is I guess one just have to learn to get indifferent about it. It's not easy though. Not yet.
Here is the breakdown for every hour during my session 1: -812 (-27BB) 2: +1195(+40BB) 3: -152 (-5BB) 4: -917 (-30BB) 5: +488 (+16BB) last 30 minutes:+1015 (+34BB) Total: 5.5hrs and +$817 for the session (1348 hands) For a LAP I would guess swings like this are normal, but not for a tight player. At 3-6 I VERY seldom had those hourly swings (BB-wise). Some hour in between yes of course, but not every hour. My stats for the session from PT: Total hands 1348 VP$IP:15.43 Folded SB to steal: 85.71 Folded BB to steal: 71.43 Att. to steal blinds: 26.15 Raised preflop: 9.2 Overall aggesionfactor:1.75 So for you regular 15-30 multitablers. Did I experience an unusually swingy session considering I'm a tight player (maybe too tight) or is this the norm? |

Yeah, you're def a little too tight and yes, those swings are pretty normal. Maybe a little exagerated but not by a lot.
It'll probably take you a little getting used to but trust me, you will. |

No, swings worse than that will happen, regardless of how tight you are. Eventually you will lose $9000 as a streak in this game (all the godlike 2+2ers are patting themselves on their back right now for being so good they can defy the laws of math).

I agree on all counts.

Hi BigBlind,
This has been said before, but the swings you experience as you move up are due the increase in aggression found at higher limits. |

It's going to be swingy, and while possible I wouldn't call a 300 BB loss a foregone conclusion. The best way to combat variance is good table selection.

Personally I like your #'s. And I wouldnt say you are too tight based on only 5.5 hrs and 1300 hands. Thats in the area of 40hrs B&M. I tend to run aroun 15-18% VP$IP.
Good job. As for the swings I cannot honestly comment on the 15-30 PP. But at work, in our 20-40 games, a person can see swings of 100+ BB in a 12 hr period. It is wild & wooly hyper agressive. |

yes, swings like that (and much worse ones) will happen.
one of the difficult things about the PP 15-30, and games like it, is being able to handle the emotional aspect. |
