Advice on KK preflop needed, post your thoughts!
9 handed .50 / 1 holdem.
Fairly tight table. UTG is aggressive, raises UTG with decent hands, at least. Holding KK in MP1. UTG raises to $1, UTG+1 folds, MP1 holding KK does what with 4 players yet to act? RAISE or CALL here? Post your thoughts. I played this hand with a friend of mine, I was the UTG player. I'll post what I had in UTG, and what my friend thought and did with his KK, once we see some responses. We disagreed about the preflop strategy with KK. Rob |

Raise.
Raise. 4 players left to act, I don't think there's any question. Maybe if I'm last to act, I think about calling. Maybe... |

Re: Advice on KK preflop needed, post your thoughts!
hi, i'm the friend with the KK. here was my thought process. the table was very tight for a low limit table and i didn't want to scare people off behind me. i was willing to risk losing the hand against winning a bigger pot. i also didn't want to alert my friend (UTG) because i know that his strategy is to raise preflop and continue raising, sometimes to the turn/river. i was pretty sure he didn't have AA.

the best way to deal with a tight table is to raise more, not less. isolate the weaker hand, be happy to be in good position to win what will probably be a half-decent pot.

[/ QUOTE ] If its that tight You are going to get action you might regret. Big suited connectors, Axs, Axo etc. This is where you post your bad beat. Poor me I didnt raise preflop. |

Re: Advice on KK preflop needed, post your thoughts!
Ok. Good posts so far.
I was UTG in this hand, with AKo. He ended up losing, but it was an AWFUL suckout. I ended up making broadway on the river, which beat his set of Kings which he made (and played well) on the flop and turn. I was betting with TPTK all the way to the turn, when he raised me, and managed to keep a third player in the pot. Then he got beat. Good for me. That's not why we posted though. I thought he played great, except I noticed he smooth called with KK preflop. I told him that I wouldn't do this, I'd 3-bet to isolate my kings, and so we decided to post. Rob |

[/ QUOTE ] When I think I have the best hand, I do what I can to maximize the pot. Raising to isolate at this level ... it happens too rarely for it to be any point, imho. You see people show down Q3o hoping that Q-high will take it after heavy action. So, at this point, I'd probably smooth call, hoping to collect some over calls. Now there's a chance an ace hits, but most of the time it won't, and then you can bet out/raise on the flop. |
