Default WPT head Steve Lipscomb

"When you play in the World Poker Tour championship at the Bellagio, there is no better poker event in the world, including the World Series of Poker. We've established the sport. The WPT is the NBA. If they try to go up against our event, they are going to have to try to take on an established event."

I dont know about anyone else but I would rather have a WSOP win over a WPT win any day. This guy thinks that he invented poker. I know that what he did for poker was big but saying that the WPT is the NBA of poker is a little much. Just wanted to get everyones thoughts on this.

He's promoting his company. That's what he gets paid to do.

Unfortunately for me, the WPT will always be tainted by that ignoramus ex-gigolo tennis pro VVP.

Default if they had an NBA of poker it would be awesome

They could start out with 4 teams: the Gardena Gaurdians,
the Las Vegas sharks, The Texas Aggies, and the New york wizards. the question is who would make the team? I think Phil would argue with the refs too much and would get suspended. David Williams could play for the texans with Doyle Brunson and Tj derusting their sports skills. I think with the natural competiveness of Doyle the Aggies could win the champioship. The WSOPNBA sponsered by harrahs, brought to you in part by O'DOULs.

you'd take a WSOP championship in like, $1000 hold-em instead of a WPT championship? Not only considering the payout but the field, I don't know. The only real saving grace of the WSOP is that badass bracelet.

I'd bet VVP still pulls mad tail, with the prema-tan, a cheesy line for every situation and, most importantly, complete and utter-shamelessness.

Clearly it should be the PGA Tour of poker. Otherwise that whole Phil Ivey/Tiger Woods thing just doesn't work.

In a way it's not that an insane statement.

The way the WSOP championship now it's not quite the best/most spectacular play if you look at the final table. The WPT is in a way, it has more stars per final table. This is because of the higher $25,000 buy-in of the WPT which limits the field but also maintains a massive prize. The WSOP Main Event imo should also now be $25,000, considering it was $10k 30+ years ago and it still $10k.
