I was told u would be disappointed
Maybe this doesn't belong in the mid/high stakes, but id rather post here also, cross posted in the zoo.
After this hand someone told me that the other 2+2er's would be disappointed in this push. I seek to prove that wrong with this post. Party $100 NL I just sat down and have $94, UTG has me covered. Im on button with KQo 3 limpers to me, I raise to 10. UTG limper calls 8, all else folded. UTG limper is loose and has been known to limp/call EP with Axo and see's way too many showdowns (over 30%, and wins at SD 40% (~100 hands) Pot $24, flop KdJc6c UTG checks I bet $20, UTG calls. could be anything. Turn Ts, giving me a OE draw, but I worry a little about KT now as well as KJ, but not much. Pot $63, I have $64. Against a tight player, or 1 with good sense, I am scared here, but not against my current opponent. UTG checks, I bet my last $61, he calls. My draw doesnt some thru, he shows KK and takes the pot, oh well. |

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
You should have bet another twenty and see what he did. I know that is not the most aggressive move, but I think it gives you a better handle on the how the hand is going.

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
betting 20 would give him 4.2 : 1 to call me, I did not like this with the flush draw on the board. And give me 3.5 : 1 to call his river bet, if he calls and bets me in on the river. In a 100BB game this is a pretty easy check or short-bet, I think. |

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
well, it seems I was wrong, you are disappointed in me. I still dont think this was a bad play against this opponent, i've seen him show down much worse hands than I had for his stack. I think anything less than a push here is too passive *against this opponent*, i think. |

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
The problem in this hand was your preflop raise. You bloated the pot, and once you hit that K you were doomed to your fate. Even on the button with 4 limpers I'm tempted to just limp in as well. I play these capped buy-in Party games so maybe I am more careful with my stack in these type of iffy situations.

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
Do you raise 1 limper on the button with KQo? I would have to say the raise was only wrong because of the number of limpers. |

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
Just a note, this is why I raise KQo.
Last 40K hands at party 1/2NL ($100) Total times dealt KQo (Less than or equal to 2 off the button): 116 Total times raised : 64 - BB/Hand: +0.55 Total times limped : 29 - BB/Hand: -0.02 This doesnt mean raising 3 limpers is right, but I think it shows raising the hand, in general, is better with position. Tho 110 times is not much of a sample, the same holds tru for KJo and AJo (roughly the same numbers) and AJs, KJs and ATs. Before the last 40K hands I almost never raised KQo and made almost no money with it. |

Re: I was told u would be disappointed
If you are positive this guy is a total fish then you can console yourself with the sentiments that this guy just got lucky. But honestly, I don't see how KQo button/CO raises when there are 3 limpers can ever be a good play. It's been mentioned before -- you don't really want to get involved in big pots, or make them big, with this hand just for it's top-pair potential. If for some reason I found myself with that flop holding KQo checked to me I might bet pot and expect to just take it down, no other cards coming as headaches -- but when called really, really slow down. How can a reasonable player call with LESS than what you have? But if you were sure he was a fish ...
