raising the low
i'm an omaha newbie, playing in the .10/.25 NL (yes, NL) o/8 game on UB.
in one hand i was on the button and called small bets on the flop and turn with a nut low draw, hit my nut low on the river, and raised about the pot. i was mostly hoping to knock out the two remaining players so i could scoop (i had nothing for the high). i got called in one spot and took 1/2. somebody heckled the raise in the chat box, and i was wondering: is raising the low a categorically bad thing to do? it doesn't seem like a bad idea, but i want to get some input on it. thanks. |

Re: raising the low
I'm no pro, but...
if i've got nut low using A2 and there's 4 people or less I'll just call. (worry about getting quartered) Most will play A2, so odds are you're splitting it four-way. If I've got the nut low using only one from A23 (ie: 23 flopped, i've got A4), I'll generally make one bet and call. BTW, I don't play NL just limit, so it's a little bit different. In NL you probably want to be more cautious with low hands, since if you're quartered and the pot gets really big, you'll lose quite a bit of chips. |

is raising the low a categorically bad thing to do? [/ QUOTE ] schwza - You'll probably get a better answer to this if you try the Pot-Limit Omaha forum. In my humble opinion, raising with the nut low is not necessarily a bad thing to do in a limit game, but is generally a poor choice in pot limit. I'd imagine it's an even worse choice in no-limit. The danger is getting quartered. Buzz |
