Getting a piece of the Flop with crap in the BB
Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (10 handed)
Preflop: Hero is BB with 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 1 fold, CO calls, 1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks. Flop: (7 SB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (7 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks, UTG+2 checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, CO bets, SB calls, Hero ????? My first thought was that I'm getting enough odds to call this hand (ooh, should I have bet out if I'm willing to call 1 bet or are there just too many players in the hand for that to accomplish anything??). Then I thought: "Hmmmm, I've got four players to act behind me, what if I raise to get rid of some (or all) of them??" Even if I'm behind that should increase my chances of winning, correct? My thought process didn't use to work like this. Is this change in thinking a good sign?? Anyway, what should I have done?? |

Re: Getting a piece of the Flop with crap in the BB
I would call to see 1 more card for cheap, hoping for trips or 2 pair. If it gets raised behind I would fold. I would never raise in this situation.

I would never just call in this situation.
If you're going to keep playing, you need to raise. |

Fold.
As detailed in HEPFAP, if there had been a PF raise, and for whatever reason you had called with J3o, THEN you are getting pot odds to call with bottom pair. Since there was no PF raise, and you have no idea how many behind you will call, get the hell out. Fell |

Re: Getting a piece of the Flop with crap in the BB
If you're going to continue playing, you should never ever call. Hopefully, a raise should fold some players and give you a chance to win this pot.
That being said, I would fold. This is one of those reverse implied odds situations. Your hand (if it is the best hand right now) has very little room for improvement. There are flush draws, str8 draws, and overcard draws against you and you have no draws. |

[/ QUOTE ] I will go along with this because there are seven players in the pot at this point and it could pay off nicely if you hit trips/two pair. I also figure since it was checked all the way around before the LP bet, it is not likely to get raised. If you miss your turn card, easy fold. |

Reverse Implied Odds...
Guess that's something I don't have a grasp of at all!
Since there were already 7 SBs in when the Flop betting round started I thought it would be o.k. to at least call. And I guess what I thought to be a brainstorm (RAISE!) was actually a brainfart! Anyway, the hand continues: Hero raises, UTG folds, UTG+2 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, CO calls, SB calls. Turn: (6.50 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, Hero... should Check/Fold??? I at least accomplished what I thought would be an admirable goal of getting everybody behind me to fold. |

Fold.
If the flop was rainbow, I'd be more inclined to raise. But given that you only have two clean J outs, I think it's a fold. |
