Default Ok to call here to see 1 more card?

PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, Hero raises, CO folds, Button folds, SB folds, BB calls, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, MP2 calls.

Flop: (10.40 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
BB bets, UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, MP2 folds, Hero calls.

Is it ok to call here to see 1 more card?

not if you're drawing to an 8. You need 22-1.

If you think you're best, raise. I doubt you are with 5 players.

I wouldn't raise 88 PF there, i'd prefer letting CO and/or button in and hope to make a set. but today my mantra on the site is "i wouldn't raise 88/KQ/AT PF"

You are almost certainly beat here. Your call is an overcall. However, the pot is laying 12.5-1 right now. There are two big bets to go.

Taken together I would tend to fold this hand.

No this is basic pot odds stuff. Either you have the best hand or you don't. If you think you have the best hand then raise, if you don't then fold because you don't have odds to draw to an 8. I would fold almost all the time right here.

This is where I get messed up. I look at how big the pot is. Try to figure out how many best it is and is it worth calling. I figured here in an instant after haveing my cursor on the fold button to call it I thought the odds were right. I see now after the converter they were dead wrong.

I still think the raise is good preflop.

You want to raise PP PF to eliminate players and get it shorthanded not to "see where you stand".

There are 3 limpers when it gets to you. You are 7.5:1 against hitting your set. Even if BB calls your raise, you still need to make up 4.5 SB in implied odds to break even (assuming a set is required to win). Getting the button might help you offset some of this when you miss but your 8s hold up (due to positional advantage), and the possibility of folding people behind you might help you win more often unimproved, but I'm not sure the trade off is worth it. I'd prefer to see the flop cheaply and hope that one or more of CO, Button, and SB decide to stay in - I'd be getting much better odds to hit my set in an unraised pot, and might well get the button on the flop anyway if I like my hand enough to bet/raise. It's probably a fairly close decision when all is said and done, but I suspect that most people would draw the line at raising 9s.
